Meet Courtnei Watts

We recently connected with Courtnei Watts and have shared our conversation below.

Courtnei, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

When I first stepped into general contracting in 2019, it started as a simple side hustle—a way to bring in some extra income. I had no idea it would become the foundation for something truly meaningful in my life. Over time, what began as a job evolved into a calling. I discovered a deep sense of fulfillment in the work itself and in the relationships I was building with clients. That realization inspired me to take a leap in 2023 and launch The Watts Group.

What sets us apart isn’t just the work we do—it’s the heart behind it. I’ve found my purpose in creating a company where people feel seen, supported, and valued. Whether it’s our clients, our employees, or the communities we serve, my goal is to treat everyone with the same respect and commitment I would expect for myself.

Loyalty is at the core of everything we do—sometimes to a fault—but it’s who I am. I believe that when you invest in people, they rise. Watching my team succeed, hit milestones, and earn the rewards they’ve worked so hard for is one of the greatest joys I’ve experienced. Rather than focusing on personal luxuries, I pour resources back into the business and the team—because when they thrive, the company thrives.

Every challenge we face has only reinforced my belief in what we’re building. I’m proud of the grit and determination my team shows day in and day out. We’re not just showing up to work—we’re showing up with purpose, integrity, and the drive to deliver quality, even when it’s not the easiest or cheapest route.

Looking to the future, I’m excited to expand into the healthcare space. It’s a new chapter, but one I embrace with confidence. The values that have guided us so far—honesty, hard work, and genuine care—are exactly what this sector needs. At The Watts Group, we’re not just building spaces—we’re building trust, opportunity, and a purpose-driven legacy that I’m proud to lead.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a general contractor, builder, and founder of The Watts Group—a company rooted in integrity, loyalty, and real, human connection. What started back in 2019 as a side gig to earn extra income slowly revealed itself as something more meaningful. With every project, every handshake, and every lesson learned, I realized I wasn’t just building structures—I was building trust, opportunity, and a future that aligned with who I am.

Today, The Watts Group is a growing company known for quality work, fair pricing, and an honest approach that stands out in the industry. But what excites me most isn’t just the work itself—it’s what the work represents. It’s about leading a team of people who care, supporting families, and helping our community thrive. I don’t cut corners, I don’t overpromise, and I treat every job like it matters—because it does.

Outside of work, I’m a husband and a father to two incredible boys. They’re the reason I do what I do. My life is grounded, and I intend to keep it that way. Even as the business grows and opportunities expand—especially as we move into exciting sectors like healthcare—I’ve stayed true to my roots. I live humbly. I haven’t upgraded my house, even though I easily could. I take vacations when I can, I enjoy my time with my family, and I don’t feel the need to flash success. My measure of wealth isn’t luxury—it’s freedom, peace of mind, and being able to invest in the people around me.

The Watts Group isn’t just a construction company. It’s a reflection of what I believe: that you can build a strong business without losing your values, that loyalty still matters, and that leadership means lifting others up along the way. Whether you’re a client, a partner, or just someone curious about what we do—I want you to know this: We show up with purpose, we deliver with pride, and we care deeply about what we leave behind.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Building Excellence

I don’t just want to build fast—I want to build right. From day one, I’ve held myself and my team to high standards of craftsmanship and execution. “Good enough” doesn’t cut it. What excites me is creating work that lasts—structures people feel proud to live or work in, projects that reflect care, precision, and excellence at every level. That’s how I’ve earned the trust of my clients, and that’s how I plan to keep it.

2. Loyalty

Loyalty is the foundation of everything I do. Whether it’s standing by my team, showing up for clients, or staying committed to my values—even when it’s not the easy route—loyalty has guided me through every step of this journey. I believe in investing in people and relationships for the long haul. That mindset has helped me build a company culture where trust runs deep, and where success is shared, not taken.

3. Honesty

In this industry, honesty can be rare—but for me, it’s non-negotiable. I believe people deserve straight answers, fair pricing, and real transparency. It’s how I do business, how I lead my team, and how I live my life. Even when honesty comes at a cost, I’ll always choose it, because I’d rather build slowly with integrity than fast without it.

These three qualities aren’t just business strategies—they’re a way of life that’s shaped who I am, how I lead, and where The Watts Group is headed.

How would you describe your ideal client?

My ideal client is someone who values quality craftsmanship, clear communication, and mutual respect—whether they’re building a custom home, a large-scale commercial property, or a specialized healthcare facility. They understand that excellence takes time, planning, and a trusted team to bring it all together. I work best with clients who see us as a true partner—people who are collaborative, decisive, and open to expert guidance throughout the process. Whether it’s a luxury residence, a retail space, or a medical office, the most successful projects come from clients who are honest about their vision and budget, and who care about building something that lasts. Together, we don’t just build structures—we build trust, value, and long-term relationships.
