We recently connected with Courtney and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is a real thing and I’m sure a lot of photographers have it. It has taken a while to realize that my photos are good enough and I’m good at what I do. Once in a while I will still feel that way but with how my business has grown and hearing how much my clients love their photos has been helping me overcome my imposter syndrome. No one ever wants to talk about the struggles of it but in reality a lot of us have it and we all have so much to offer as photographers.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Right now with my photography….I’m the owner of The Perfect Click. I have been doing a lot more weddings this summer and I have been busier in general then I was last year! I’m so glad I am getting to meet so many new people and I do enjoy taking photos for them. I have done everything from family, kids, couples, pets, weddings/elopements, and events. Lately I have been branching out into the business branding part of photography. I have been enjoying doing photos for other businesses also because it’s a great way to get their business out there more and also a good way to show what they are all about. But I do love doing any type of session.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say that if you are getting started into photography that you are always learning. Keep up to date with your camera and know how to use manual, shadow another photographer, meet and become friends with other photographers. Knowing other photographers and having a relationship with them is pretty important. It means you both can bounce ideas off of each other and also recommend each other if needed. That also helps with shadowing another photographer too.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking to collaborate with others! I think it’s a great way to get everyone’s business out there. There are many ways to collaborate with a photographer and I hope to do more of it this Summer. Getting ahold of me through my Facebook page or email is the best way to get ahold of me.
