Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Courtney Barnes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Courtney, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
My husband’s (Anthony) unwavering support has played a vital role in shaping my ability to embrace risk-taking. His encouragement and belief in my venture have given me the freedom to step beyond the confines of a traditional 9-5 job. This empowerment has enabled me to venture into uncharted territory, whether it’s launching new products with uncertain outcomes or experimenting with unique patterns. The security of having someone who stands by my side and shares my vision has significantly bolstered my confidence to make bold decisions and navigate outside my comfort zone.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I run a creative business that specializes in selling pet bandanas and bow ties, along with matching scrunchies and headbands for their owners. What makes my business particularly exciting and special is the fusion of fashion and companionship. My products not only showcase unique designs and styles but also strengthen the bond between pets and their owners. We’re all about celebrating the joy of sharing stylish accessories with our furry friends and creating memorable moments together.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
-Starting with a good understanding of basic business principles has been really important for me. Knowing even the small details has given me the confidence to make smart choices while handling the complexities of my successful venture.
-Learning how to sew has opened up a lot of creative possibilities. This skill lets me personally make high-quality pet accessories that define my brand, adding a special touch that sets my business apart.
-Most importantly, having the patience to watch my business grow over time has been really rewarding and humbling. Taking things one step at a time helps me stay focused on my goals and enjoy the journey.
When embarking on your entrepreneurial journey, it’s crucial to have a genuine passion for what you’re doing. Otherwise, you may find yourself disliking it just as much as you did a “regular” job. While information can always be acquired, true passion is something you can’t simply look up or replace.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My perfect customer isn’t just a pet owner; they’re someone with a genuine love for animals who seeks to express that affection through fashionable pet accessories. Whether they have dogs or cats, they aspire to adorn their furry companions with chic bandanas and bow ties, and not only that, but they also desire matching sets!
