Courtney, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I have firsthand experience of being the child in the classroom with nothing, the one in my family whom nobody understands, and enduring variations of emotional abuse. Growing up in a household where no one truly believed in my ability to succeed and being on streets from the age of 13 has given me a unique perspective and a strong desire to be of service to others. I see the world through a different lens.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a multi-faceted individual, serving as an entrepreneur, political artist, politician, and adult star. My work revolves around humanitarian principles, advocating for freedom of expression, and dismantling barriers. I am proud to have co-founded GBY BEAUTY, Medium Exchange Gallery, and Bruce Bar, each reflecting my commitment to innovative ventures. Beyond my business pursuits, I dedicate a significant amount of time to advocating for human rights, particularly for sex workers and displaced women. Additionally, I actively seek global solutions that can be implemented in the United States to address pressing societal challenges.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The key skills that have likely contributed to my path are:
Resilience: Overcoming challenges such as a difficult upbringing and emotional abuse requires resilience, which has helped me persevere and continue moving forward.
Creativity: As an entrepreneur, political artist, and adult star, my ability to think creatively and outside the box has likely played a significant role in my success. It allows me to approach problems and express myself in unique and impactful ways.
Leadership: Co-founding multiple ventures, such as GBY BEAUTY, Medium Exchange Gallery, and Bruce Bar, require strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and guide others has likely been instrumental in bringing ideas to life.
Advocacy: My Political Philosophy and dedication to advocating for human rights, particularly for sex workers, displaced women, and global solutions, I have made commitment to making a positive impact on society. raising awareness, mobilize support, and drive change is crucial in this regard.
Adaptability: Navigating different industries and roles, from entrepreneurship to art to politics, requires adaptability. Along with the willingness to embrace new challenges and adapt to changing circumstances has likely helped me navigate a dynamic and evolving journey.
These skills, among others, have likely played a significant role in shaping my unique journey.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, the most valuable sources of support and guidance have come from the people around me and the communities I have been a part of. It is the collective wisdom, experiences, and genuine connections with average, authentic individuals that have been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop the necessary skills, qualities, and knowledge for success.
Within these communities, I have found mentors who generously shared their expertise, providing me with invaluable insights and advice. They have offered me guidance, challenged my perspectives, and encouraged me to push my limits. Their wisdom and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping my growth and development.
Moreover, my interactions with a diverse range of individuals within these communities have exposed me to different viewpoints, cultures, and experiences. Engaging with people from various walks of life has expanded my understanding of the world, fostering empathy and compassion. It has broadened my horizons, allowing me to see beyond my own limitations and embrace new possibilities.
Additionally, the power of community support cannot be overstated.
