Meet Courtney Ceacal

We were lucky to catch up with Courtney Ceacal recently and have shared our conversation below.

Courtney , thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I’ve learned how to be effective or successful in rooms where I’m the only who looks like me by increasing my knowledge and skills in my business industry. This is something that I always do in my business, looking for something new to learn that can increase my ability to serve my team and clients so that when I’m in a room with people or business owners whom don’t look like me or understand what I do. I can convey my message to each and every one on their level one to one or in a group setting. When I first started my business, I was not great at explaining what I did and how I could help people see the value in what we do and how it can help pet owners. So, I started looking at how I could help people understand what we do in the simplest way possible, after doing the research to become a better communicator I implemented what I learned while tweaking it to create my message to my community. If you’re looking for a way to be successful in a room full of people who don’t look like you look to improve your skill and knowledge. Always remember that “you can swim with sharks if you are putting blood in the water with fear of being different”. This quote means that you are a shark also so do put fear aka “blood” in the water.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My focus is on business and education to the community on why it is important to pick up your dog waste and how this little task can help keep us all a little healthier and our pets safe. I enjoy helping families, business owners and community members with their pet waste needs. By doing this for pet owners we are able to keep pets safe from getting sick from eating their waste. The one thing that makes me the proudest is truly helping my community with picking up dog waste.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Having drive, being self motivated and Communication are three qualities that has been the most important in developing myself as a owner and how to be better moving forward.

My advice for those early days of their journey is simple don’t quit and keep going because you will learn lessons along the way. Despite all the mishaps, headaches and disappointments as they will come. Remember why you started your business and focus on executing your goals, increasing your knowledge of your business to better help others.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They held me accountable for all my decisions I made as a kid until I was on my own and that taught me how to be a person who does what they say without excuses. Instead of letting me makes excuses and not finish what I started. How to leave compassion for others and to be grateful for everything you have in life.
