We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Courtney Graham Yana Newman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Courtney Graham below.
Courtney Graham, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
As Hair Colorists, we are constantly trying to stay on top of the trends. However, our profession gives us absolute freedom to be and stay creative. In our early days of our careers, there are constant questions we would run into: Was our client happy?
Did we achieve our end goal?
Did we formulate correctly?
Will our guest be able to recreate this look at home?
The list goes on and on…
Over the years of failures and successes, we learn what works for most and what doesn’t. The only way out, is through the hard parts- .color corrections, bad haircuts, miscommunications.
But what keeps us going? Our passion for hair. There is nothing like styling a true masterpiece that all our years of hard work and education got us to. We find creativity in everything. Social media, a class, other stylists, travel.
At the end of the day, it’s really easy to stay creative because we never gave up, and it’s easy to see the beauty in anything. We get to come to work and paint hair all day, and make people happy and confident, there is truly nothing like it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Indigo Hair Studio, we specialize in trendy and classic hair color. We are highly educated in not only new techniques but also top of the line hair color and products. We also brought in the top Hand Tied hair extension method know as Invisible Bead Extensions.
Here, we can give you your dream hair color, length and fullness.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Our most important skills would be: Communication
Education
Creativity
Communication with our team is just as important as communication with our guests. We leave no room for any gray areas therefore everyone is on the same page all the time.
Education is very important for us. We are knowledgeable in every aspect we perform, be it behind the chair or managing our salon. The more we learn, the better for everyone involved.
Creativity is super important! Our clients along with our industry keeps us on our toes, our creativity is what keeps us on top of our game.
How would you describe your ideal client?
Good question! Our ideal client is someone who is attracted to our personal brand. If you look at our Instagram and it screams your name- give us a call! Word of mouth has also built our books in a great way. If a client likes our work, comes in on time, brings pictures of things they like and don’t like, rebooks their next appointment and takes our advise… then that client is a perfect fit.
