Meet Courtney Jay Higgins

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Courtney Jay Higgins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Courtney Jay, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My Mama. Hands down. She’s the most resilient person I’ve ever met. She’s taught me to always pull myself back up, laugh often, smile often, and know that whatever hardship is happening—it will end.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a yoga instructor and mama to a 1.5 year old little girl. My brand Coincide, is my first born child.

I launched Coincide in 2020 during COVID as a way to offer accessible, on-demand yoga classes. Which means you can take a class anytime anywhere. its been an incredible journey filling a yoga library with 40+ classes and courses focused on yoga’s ancient teachings, dance-inspired yoga, and more. My husband I just completed my at-home yoga studio which will elevate the quality of my on-demand classes along with being a space to offer in-person gatherings. I recently hosted my first mother’s circle in the space and am planning a day retreat for the fall. This space is a sanctuary in the forest of Evergreen Colorado and I can’t wait to share it with more of the community here.

Outside of yoga, Coincide offers education on conscious living, wellness practices, astrology, postpartum support, and pregnancy. I’m in the process of launching a on-line store that houses all of my favorite products in these categories.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. My top most important career path and area of knowledge has been my career as a writer. I got my degree in Visual Communications from FIDM (The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). Which led me to a very fun fashion career doing shoot coordination and styling. Long story short, I found my way to the online magazine world and started working as a Creative Director and writer. Writing has been a cornerstone for launching Coincide, along with being steady income.

2. Listening to my heart and getting my yoga teaching certification. It was a big leap of faith to decide to get this certification. But my heart was telling me I had to. Receiving my 200HR YTT was one of the most important and impactful experiences of my life that aligned me with my life path.

3. Spiritual practices. This is anything from consistent meditation, yoga, praying, gratitude journal, working with the earth through herbalism, etc. Anything that keeps you connected to your high consciousness. Without my spiritual practices I wouldn’t be where I am today. And where I am today is a full manifestation of where I always hoped I’d end up. I credit my consistent dedication to doing things that kept me listening to what my higher self wanted me to do and walking that path.

#3 is also my biggest advice for those starting out on your journey.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My husband.

He’s my guiding light, my dream creator, and my biggest cheerleader. He sees what I’m capable of and pushes me to do it. He’s constantly looking for ways to support me. He’s also my video editor and Coincide’s Creative Director. I’m deeply grateful to have him as a partner in this life.
