Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Courtney Kessler. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Courtney , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose when I was young and became bored watching cartoons, I sat there in my jammies snacking on some form of breakfast pastry and stumbled upon Julia Child on the local cable channel. Watching Julia and Jacques Pepin creating a delicious looking dessert set my heart aflame. From that point forward I would watch all the cooking shows I could find, there was never too many.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a Pastry Chef, my main focus is on my clients happiness while challenging myself to step out of the commercial box. I find it exciting when my clients request a design or flavor combination that doesn’t seem feasible. Spending time in the kitchen focused on ways that I can have all the elements come together cohesively and beautifully is truly my happy place.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When I look back at my journey I am thankful for my perseverance, my strength & my flexibility to name a few things. My perseverance carried me through rough days where I started to question if I made the right choice and was the reason I would knuckle up and keep going. My strength carried me through the blisters, burns, cuts, bruises and fatigue as I kept my eye on what I considered the prize. My flexibility in the work environment kept me on my superiors good side because they knew that no matter what chaos or issue presented itself, I would re-adjust and keep going, Always striving to move forward and never back. In my opinion, as long as you have these three skills, everything else is as easy as baking a cake.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents have done and still do for me is support me fully. They are always curious about what is on the agenda as far as events or orders. They ask me to send pictures or ask about my creative process. They even mail me random articles or recipes they find, just because they think I may like it or find it useful.
