We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Courtney Smith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Courtney below.
Courtney, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I definitely get my work ethic from my mother. My mother was a single mom and she went over and beyond to give me such a great life. I saw her make something out of nothing from working hard and I always knew, if I put in the work, I could be successful at anything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Cristina’s Curls was started to address a need for my newborn baby. Cristina experienced severe eczema and cradle cap from birth and the products that were given to us from doctors were not working. After weeks of frustration, my husband suggested that I formulate something for her since formulation and esthetics is my background. It was at that moment a lightbulb went off in my head and Cristina’s Curls was born. Now after three years of being available to the public, we have help thousands of families dealing with the same thing.
It is so fulfilling to know that our products are helping children all over the world.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities or skills that have helped me on my journey would be, finding my niche, being transparent with my audience and always remembering why I started my business. Having a niche keeps you from throwing darts in the dark. You know exactly who you are catering to because everyone will not be your customer or client.
Being transparent with your audience builds trust and people buy from companies and/or people they relate to.
Lastly, remembering why I started Cristina’s Curls, keeps me on track and on the path to accomplish the goals I set before me.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The challenge that I am currently facing is relinquishing control. Cristina’s Curls is my baby and I try to run everything myself. But I’m training some amazing people to help me run my business day to day, so that I can focus on growing and scaling Cristina’s Curls.
