Meet Courtnie Kidd

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Courtnie Kidd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtnie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose to create through a combination of personal interests, talents, and life experiences. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the arts, whether it was drawing, painting, or sculpting. This interest grew into a passion, and I realized that creating was a way for me to express myself and connect with others. As I got older, I also began to realize that I had a natural talent for creating. I found that I was able to bring my ideas to life in unique and meaningful ways. This encouraged me to pursue my passion further, and I started to explore different mediums, techniques, and styles.
Life experiences also played a big role in helping me find my purpose to create. I was inspired by the beauty and wonder of the world around me, while hiking or traveling, and I wanted to capture and share that beauty with others. I also found that creating was a way for me to process my emotions and experiences, and to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level.
Over time, I realized that my art had the power to evoke emotions and inspire others. Seeing the impact that my pieces had on people only fueled my love for creating even more. It was then that I realized that my purpose was to use my art as a means of connecting with others and sharing the beauty and emotions that it evokes.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Creativity: The ability to come up with unique and original ideas is crucial in a handmade craft business. It helps to set your products apart from the competition and capture the attention of customers. To develop creativity, it’s important to allow yourself time to explore different mediums and techniques, experiment with different colors and textures, and seek inspiration from various sources, such as nature, art, and other creative individuals. 2. Marketing and branding: In order to succeed in a crowded marketplace, it’s essential to have a strong brand and a solid marketing strategy. This includes understanding your target audience, creating a unique brand identity, and promoting your business through social media, advertising, and other channels. To improve in this area, it’s important to study successful brands and marketing techniques, and seek feedback from customers and peers.
3. Time management: Running a handmade craft business can be time-consuming, and it’s important to be able to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities. Effective time management skills can help you prioritize tasks, set realistic deadlines, and make the most of your available time. To improve in this area, it’s helpful to create a daily or weekly schedule, identify time-wasting activities, and learn to delegate or outsource tasks as needed.
For folks who are early in their journey, my advice would be to focus on developing these three areas, along with any other skills or qualities that are relevant to their specific craft and business. This can include learning new techniques, networking with other crafters, and seeking out resources and support from online communities and local organizations. It’s also important to stay committed to your craft, remain open to learning and growth, and stay passionate about your work, even when faced with challenges or setbacks.

They appreciate the art of gift-giving and understand the importance of leaving a lasting impression on their loved ones or guests. They are open to new ideas and are willing to collaborate with me to create personalized and memorable gifts or favors. They value the effort and attention to detail that goes into each item, and are willing to pay a fair price for a one-of-a-kind product. Overall, my ideal client is someone who shares my passion for creating beautiful and meaningful gifts and home decor items.
