We were lucky to catch up with Cozi recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cozi, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
This is the perfect question for me because I am a very optimistic person. It comes from always having hope. I’m the type of person that always sees the light at the end of the tunnel, and being a stylist you HAVE to be optimistic and solution oriented. Otherwise, you’ll just focus on the problem more than anything. My optimism also comes from God & the people I surround myself with. Having Godly friends is so important, they help keep your eyes on the prize.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Cozi, and I’m a Wardrobe Stylist from Pontiac, MI. I’m committed to bringing a loud, cohesive vision to life in every project I touch. Known for my work in Runway, Editorial, and Personal Styling, I’m expanding into Celebrity and refined Runway Styling to further push my creative boundaries. For me, Fashion is Freedom. It’s the art of expression, storytelling, and transformation. I love what I do, and my mission is always to help a vision come alive with authenticity & precision.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Sharpen your eye by studying everything. From high fashion to street style, past to present and always aim to tell a story. Be open to learning and adjusting when things don’t go as planned, and most importantly, nurture genuine connections and get in the field! You can only grow so much without doing. The technical skills will come with experience, but closed mouths don’t get fed. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, if you see someone posting about a project, ask if they need a stylist or wardrobe assistant. Look for fashion opportunities on LinkedIn too, it’s a great way to connect with people in the industry and discover projects you may not come across on your day to day. Simply put, passion, consistency, and authenticity are what will truly set you apart.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
In the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been becoming more intentional and selective with the projects I take on. I’ve learned that saying yes to everything can sometimes dilute your vision. Now, I choose projects that truly align with the type of work I want to create and the direction I want my portfolio to reflect as I grow in to the Stylist I want to be. That shift has allowed me to produce work that feels more authentic and lays a stronger foundation for the future I’m building in fashion.
