We recently connected with Craig Babiarz and have shared our conversation below.
Craig, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
In 2007, I lost a bunch of friends to car crashes, suicides, and in one case, murder. At that time I was in a few different music projects, mostly original stuff, with a very desired punk vibe. I didn’t really believe in the nihilism that some punks prescribed to, but I did my part in writing down and out, against authority music. After my friends passed away, I suddenly got the motif of nihilistic music. I realized I spent so much time being down on the world and my surroundings, I missed prescious time with my friends. I made up my mind to change my out look, and really looked deep down inside myself. I needed to be true to who I was, who I was becoming. I am optimistic for my self, and my friends. The world could burn around us, but we will be ok in the end.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In 2008, I launched User-friendly Killer Robots. A punk metal 3 piece band that is still touring today. I took my absurdist ideals and turned them into modern story’s for our die hard fans to figure out. The brand is about throwing the shackles of modern society off of one’s self, to be the truest “you” you can be. I sing about one ideal shared by many philosophies: the golden rule, do onto others as others would do onto you, don’t be a d*ck, etc. A lot of big corporations and political institutions actively work against your true self, they get you to buy that thing you’d normally would never buy, they get you to spout miss information to spread their goals. My brand is against that at its core.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Read the room was a hard skill for me to learn. Not every one is ready to listen to what you have to say. Practice your craft, wether it be music, art, writing, what ever you do, practice it till it becomes second nature. And lastly, be humble and confident. Take the compliment with a simple thank you, and keep your ears open around others. One of my favorite quotes is “keep your words sweet, just in case you have to eat them.”

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I love collaboration. I’m definitely looking for venues that would host underground punk/metal concerts. Also I’m looking for other bands who are actively gigging and working to join us with these ideas of inclusion and acceptance.
