We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crew Life Productions a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Crew Life Productions, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
A lot of our resilience and work ethic comes from the city we reside in and experiencing life in it. Maintaining and thriving in life in our city is work in itself. When it came to the music side getting in the studio and working wasn’t something that was new to us. We take the experiences/ drive and will to survive and put that same energy into our work in studio and on stage or behind the boards and camera.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Crew Life Productions is a Rap, Hip-Hop & RnB group. We in house produce and record our music, as well as film and edit our own videos. Everything we do is independent which makes our look and sound different than something you may have seen or heard before. We bring everything from hype, horror core rap vibes all the way to ambient, slow RnB slaps and everything in between. DOMMY (crew life founder) is also the producer of the group which gives every member a chance to be hands on with how the song turns out, rather than working with pre made beat selections. There is something for everyone to love and we have music for every mood and ear. We’ve recently been working over time with pushing videos and projects for our artists solo ventures as well. Crew life is only one lane that our artists cover so be sure to check the team members out individually aswell!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
A few of our members have musical backgrounds that they utilize and put to work. This first and foremost I think really helps the music process go smoothly, having knowledge of how to construct a song and knowing how to re arrange the structure of a song makes the process a lot smoother and the end result better overall. Having multiple videographers in the group also makes bringing content to life a lot easier. With so many resources at our disposal it’s hard not to be creating something all the time.
If your just starting your journey with art or music whatever it may be, you can’t let outside influences guide your journey. If there is any advice we can give I think it would be to stay true to yourself. Do whatever makes you happy and keep like minded people around you with the same goals. Having a strong network of like minded people and doing what makes you happy is always key in anything you do in life including music and art.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Crew Life Productions is always down to collab with like minded people. Our artists have a lot of range so we’re always looking for something outside the box to collaborate on. From producers to musicians to photographers and videographers, we’re here for it!
