We were lucky to catch up with Cristina Braun recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cristina, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience is not merely about overcoming challenges; it’s about how you stand tall and push through when those challenges attempt to knock you down. I was born with this resilience firmly within me. My mother battled mental illness and resorted to drugs and alcohol to cope during my childhood. From an early age, I recognized the importance of being aware of my surroundings and working diligently to secure a happy and healthy future for myself.
By the age of 10, I no longer lived with my mother and only had a handful of interactions with her throughout my life. Ultimately, she succumbed to a drug overdose after years of living as a homeless woman in a tent city near LAX airport. Facing life without a mother has only made me stronger and more resilient to anything that comes my way. I am determined that there is nothing I cannot achieve.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Total Beauty Bar, my goal is to help people look and feel their best. I focus on enhancing their natural beauty while truly listening to their needs. My clients often seek a space where they can laugh, cry, vent, or simply unwind and take a break from the world.
I take pride in our services, which not only make you look great but also include an exceptional lymphatic massage and a soothing neck and shoulder massage, making our spa the best in the area. We use Eminence Organic Skincare to achieve amazing results, and we are committed to using healthy products that are good for your skin.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey as a business owner are standing out, work ethic, and determination. I aimed to be the best, and I understood that achieving this required hard work and a commitment to continuous learning. To this day, I consistently educate myself on the latest trends in beauty and skincare, ensuring I stay informed about what is emerging in the industry. I take all the knowledge I have gained and use it to create a unique and unforgettable experience for my clients.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, the first thing I do is go surfing. To quiet my mind, I need to focus on something else and release the energy within me. After I’ve tired myself out, I start to compartmentalize. I organize what needs to be done and tackle one task at a time. Little by little, I take it one step at a time.
