We recently connected with Cruz and have shared our conversation below.
Cruz , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
For our family, celebration has always been more than balloons and backdrops. it’s been a love language.
Before Chuchi’s Events became a business, it was simply something we did. We poured our hearts into planning birthdays, baby showers, and weddings for our loved ones. We’d stay up late sketching designs, painting by hand, and brainstorming themes over dinner. Every detail mattered because we weren’t just planning parties, we were creating memories for people we loved.
That’s when it clicked: this could be something bigger.
We realized we weren’t just good at this, we loved doing it. And more importantly, we worked incredibly well as a team. Everyone brought something different to the table. The men in our family became our production team, building custom props and painting backdrops with steady hands and creative precision. Our daughter, with her background in communications and media, became our voice; managing our client communication, video content, and social channels. And at the heart of it all is Chuchi, the visionary, the detail-obsessed creative force who brings each event to life.
Starting out, one of our biggest challenges was simply getting seen. Like any small business, we had to earn trust before we could book events. But we leaned into what made us different, our quality, our unity, and our style. Social media became our stage. We posted what we created with pride. Every reel, every setup, every behind-the-scenes clip helped spread the word. Slowly but surely, people began to notice.
There wasn’t one single moment when we knew this was our purpose. It was a thousand little moments. The way our setups lit up a room, the tears in a client’s eyes when they saw their vision come to life, the pride we felt watching each other hustle and shine. It was the realization that we were doing what we loved, together, and bringing joy to people in the process.
We’re a family of creatives, builders, dreamers, and doers. And we treat every event like it’s our own. The joy on our clients’ faces, that moment when they walk into a room we’ve transformed, is our greatest reward. That’s the magic we live for.
At the end of the day, our purpose is simple: to celebrate life’s biggest moments with intention, creativity, and heart. And we’re honored every time a family invites our family to be part of their story.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Chuchi’s Events is a family-owned event design and party rental company based in Denver, Colorado. We specialize in curated balloon installations, themed backdrops, luxury bounce houses, and creative props that transform spaces and bring celebrations to life.
What makes us different is that everything we create is rooted in family, intention, and care. We don’t just decorate a space. We help tell a story. Whether it’s a birthday, baby shower, wedding, or brand event, we bring thoughtful design and creativity to every setup to make it feel one of a kind.
One of the most meaningful parts of our work is getting to be part of moments people will never forget. From a baby’s first birthday to a long-awaited graduation party, we get to help people celebrate the milestones that matter. Being able to do that together, as a family, is something really special.
Our family is involved in every part of the business. The men in our family handle the construction and painting of our custom props and backdrops. Our daughter manages our client communication, content creation, and social media. And Chuchi is the creative lead behind the event designs. Everyone brings their own strengths, and we all work together to make each event a success.
We’re not focused on any one specific direction right now. We’ve simply been enjoying the creative work and the wide range of events we get to be part of. Lately, we’ve seen a big rise in gender reveal bookings with our bubble house, which has been a fun and unique experience for clients.
We’re proud of what we’ve built and excited for what’s ahead. No matter what kind of event people are planning, we want them to know they can count on Chuchi’s Events to bring their vision to life in a beautiful, creative, and professional way.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have had the biggest impact on our journey with Chuchi’s Events: creativity, resilience, and teamwork.
Creativity has been at the core of everything we do. From designing balloon installations to building custom props, our ability to dream big and think outside the box has helped us stand out. For anyone just starting out, the best way to develop creativity is by staying inspired. Look at everything around you—colors, textures, architecture, fashion, nature. Try new things, experiment, and don’t be afraid to put your own twist on ideas. The more you create, the more confident you’ll become in your own style.
Resilience was also key, especially in the beginning. Starting a small business comes with a lot of unknowns and obstacles. There were times when things didn’t go as planned, but we kept showing up, learning, and pushing forward. Our advice: take setbacks as lessons, not failures. Keep your vision in mind, and stay focused on your long game. Consistency really does pay off.
Lastly, teamwork is what makes it all work. We’re lucky to be a family business, and we’ve learned how to lean into each other’s strengths. No one person can do it all, and that’s okay. Surround yourself with people you trust, and communicate often. Know your role, support others in theirs, and remember that success is always a group effort.
For anyone starting their own journey, know that it doesn’t have to be perfect from day one. Stay curious, stay grounded, and trust your process. You’ll be surprised how far passion and persistence can take you.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Running a small business, especially one that’s so hands-on and visual, definitely comes with moments of overwhelm. There are deadlines, custom details, logistics, and the pressure to make every event perfect. When it starts to feel like too much, the first thing we do is pause and breathe. Even just taking a moment to step back, regroup, and look at the bigger picture can help bring clarity.
As a family business, we lean on each other a lot. If one person is feeling stretched thin, someone else steps in. That kind of support system makes a huge difference. We remind ourselves that we don’t have to do it all alone.
Another strategy that helps is organizing our priorities. We look at what needs to get done right now, and what can wait. Breaking big tasks into smaller, manageable steps helps make the workload feel less intimidating.
And finally, we try to give ourselves grace. We’ve learned that perfection isn’t always the goal—showing up and doing our best is. Some days will be messy and stressful, but they’re part of the journey too.
Advice for others: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Make rest part of your routine, not a reward. And remember, it’s okay to take a step back if it means protecting your peace and creativity. You can’t pour from an empty cup.
