Meet Crystal Bailey

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crystal Bailey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Crystal, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

The only way to find your purpose is to write down what you do effortlessly often that gravitates people to you and then take it to God for confirmation. My purpose kept showing up in rooms where I performed my gifts. People continued to gravitate to me on a more intimate and spiritual level that was pulling me out of my comfort zone and it forced me to take a moment to think about why it kept happening. I couldn’t get away from it, and I knew that was it. I then took to prayer and asked God to reveal and confirm to me my purpose.

He revealed my ability to connect with people and pour insight and possibility through the use of words and experiences that allowed me to show up as the example. I am able to use my heart in realtime through words offering emotional connections and impacting people.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am Crystal Bailey, Im a 37 year old serial entrepreneur. I am a widow and single mother who lost my husband to gun violence 10 year ago, 3 months into marriage with a new baby. Loosing everything birthed my resilience, and I never looked back. Professionally I am an Event Producer, I have been doing luxury events and live event production for over 15 years for celebrities and major brands all over the United States and internationally. What’s so special is I have a unique niche of curating one of a kind experiences, my secret weapon is my ability to have technical vision; and that’s what separates me from other event planners and allows me to bring events to life.

I have curated some of the biggest events for my clients such as Roc Nation, Hennessy and TV One, and specifically known in Philadelphia for creating one of the largest social events in Philadelphia known as Black Is. I also own an active female focused brand called Soar (See Opportunity and Rise) Network, that empowers women and young girls to walk in their purpose and dreams fearlessly; disrupting the norms of society. We have a community based sector called Girls with Goals, which is our non profit youth organization specializing in putting young women in front of their potential and allowing them to SOAR.

By purpose I speak on stages all over the United States about resilience and walking in your purpose while using your gifts as the platform. I most recently wrote a new book called A New Strut which is a 2 part book encouraging women to walk in their purpose and own their light. It is also a hands on guide on how to do so.

I also recently launched a new members only social group for professionals of color called The List. It is a community of professionals who want exclusive access to one of a kind events, and you only can attend by being on the list. Our audience is for people who want to network together, connect, educate, and impact in the community; all while having fun. The vibes live on the list, and we accept members all year long.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most important Qualities and areas of knowledge for me are: Having Faith, Tenacity & Consistency. It must also be paired with being a disruptor and having the will power to take risk. 1. You MUST have faith, every season will not be full of sunshine, there will be hard days, and days you have nothing, and you have to believe in God and that things will work out. 2. You need tenacity and grit to be consistent in your journey. You MUST commit to showing up consistently everyday in your purpose and gifts. 3. You have to be willing to shake things up and stand out. Leaders don’t take no’s as the end, they don’t follow the pack, and they are willing to jump without knowing how you will land.

My best advice is to do your research, study, study, study everything about your journey, get as much knowledge as possible and then create a plan around it starting with your end goal and work backwards towards achieving it; making sure you write everything down.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed I pray and then listen to music. Music calms my spirit, it allows me to slow down and process, so I tend to play gospel first to center me. Once I am in a calm space I play trap music to amp me back up to keep going as a reminder to myself you’ve got this!
Find your center and do what calms you quickly.
