Meet Crystal Cintra

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Crystal Cintra a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Crystal, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?

My self-discipline comes from having clear, long terms goals, and focusing on the exciting outcomes that my work will bring. When you are passionate about something and committed to making it happen, whether as a hobby or a career, it becomes easier to stay focused and work hard to achieve your goals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I have over 15 years of experience in procurement, and about 10 years ago, I began working on construction projects in the oil & gas and petrochemical industries. That’s when I discovered my passion for project work, particularly in building structures from the ground up or transforming things that need improvement. Around the same time, I decided to pursue construction for myself, so my husband and I started building and remodeling houses. Managing our own construction projects and building our rental portfolio have allowed us to exercise our creativity and put in practice our project management and investment skills. Over the past 6 years, we have significantly grown our company, Urbanity Capital LLC, and every day we work towards financial independence by combining our passion with a job we truly enjoy (well, most days, at least!).

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One key factor in achieving my goals has been being bold and taking calculated risks. Circumstances are rarely perfect, but recognizing when things are promising enough and seizing those opportunities has consistently led to successful outcomes for both me as a professional and for my company.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My parents have always encouraged me to pursue my dreams and allowed me to make mistakes along the way, giving me the space to fix them on my own whenever possible. Growing up, I didn’t always appreciate this approach; I felt they could have “babied” me more. However, now I realize how impactful their parenting style was in building my resilience, drive for results, and understanding that sometimes you just have to push through and get things done, regardless of motivation or whether you enjoy the task. The concept of “no pain, no gain” has become deeply ingrained in me because of that.
