We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Crystal Fay Almazan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Crystal Fay below.
Hi Crystal Fay, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
The way I practice self-care varies from day to day as there’s no one way to do it. Some days, I carve out time to read a book; other days, I’ll put on music and dance, or I might choose to meditate. It all depends on how I feel or how I want to feel. Taking time for yourself is so important, especially in today’s fast-paced world. Being intentional with your time, and prioritizing activities that bring you joy isn’t a luxury – it’s essential for becoming the best version of yourself. When I make time for self-care, I find that I am more focused and calmer, allowing me to approach tasks with greater clarity and efficiency. The mindset shifts from “I have to…” to “I get to…” turning responsibilities to opportunities.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have always been in sales or customer service roles throughout my career. In July 2020, the company that I was a consultant for decided to change their business model and I had a decision to make, whether to stay with the company or move on. In August 2020, an opportunity presented itself to join another company and as a consultant, I truly loved it. I even thought that I would retire with them. But after 2 1/2 years, they closed their doors in 2023 putting me at another crossroads. It took most of 2023 to figure out my next move. After a lot of reflection, conversations, prayers, and a trip to the Philippines, I made the decision that it was time to start my own business, and that’s when Alma Sun was born.
Alma Sun is a deeply personal to me because it reflects who I am. Many people assume my first name is Alma, because of the business name, but it’s a creative play my last name, Almazan – thanks to my brother John Paul, for coming up with it! My parents immigrated from the Philippines to the US in the late 70’s, and I grew up witnessing their dedication to family and their strong work ethic. They always taught me that if I worked hard and stayed determined, anything is possible. That mindset shaped my own ambition and desire to build something for myself. A fun fact: every chain I offer is named after a family member, a friend, an inspirational woman, or a Tagalog word – keeping my roots and connections close to my heart.
Alma Sun specializes in high-quality clasp-less, micro-welded jewelry customized to anyone’s style – bracelets, anklets, rings, and necklaces in sterling silver or 14k yellow or rose gold filled. Customers can personalize their jewelry with charms, connectors, or opt for clasp. I also offer a curated collection of ready to wear pieces included beaded bracelets, dainty rings, and necklaces.
More than just jewelry, I find joy in building relationships with my customers, creating memorable experiences, and helping them celebrate meaningful moments. Right now, I am focused on learning new techniques and skills – to expand what I offer, so stay tuned!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, grace, and the ability to create meaningful connections.
Resilience has helped me overcome challenges, whether in life or business. I’ve had my share of setbacks since they are inevitable, but they don’t define me. Instead of dwelling on obstacles, I allow myself to feel, reflect, and then take the next step forward.
Grace is just as important as resilience. While hard work and perseverance push me toward my goals, I’ve learned to give myself grace along the way. The journey isn’t always smooth, and it’s ok to pause, reassess, and adjust without self-judgment. It’s something that I work on daily.
Finally, creating meaningful connections has shaped the way I approach my business. Years of working in customer service, and being a consumer myself, taught me what kind of experience I wanted for Alma Sun to offer. I believe that jewelry holds stories, and I love hearing the “why” behind my customers’ selections. My hope is that each piece serves as a personal reminder of a meaningful moment in their lives.
If there’s one takeaway from my journey, it’s this: challenges will come, but your mindset determines how you move forward. Give yourself grace, stay resilient, and surround yourself with connections that inspire and uplift you.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing that my parents did for me was allowing my brother and me to be ourselves. No matter what career path I chose, they loved and supported me unconditionally. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to take risks, pursue my passions, speak my mind, and build something of my own. Knowing that you have a good support system makes all the difference. Their example of hard work and resilience shaped the way I approach both life and business.
