We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Crystal Hejazi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Crystal below.
Crystal, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
I would say going to the gym and lifting weights developed my confidence and self esteem.
I didn’t start picking up weights until 2014 when I hired a personal trainer. Before that I’d only go on cardio machines and do some group fitness classes. My trainer then taught me that weights weren’t only for men and that women should also be lifting weights. She said it will make you look strong and fit. And I never looked backed since.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
How I got into personal training was hiring a trainer and while working with her, she suggested putting me though a 60 day challenge where I was on a strict nutrition plan and trained with her twice a week to help build my strength. Because I excelled so quickly she then suggested training for a bikini competition. I thought she was crazy at first but I’m very competitive so I did it. It was definitely challenging cause it was more demanding than my twice a week strength training and even more of a stricter diet. Because of that, I also had to add 5-6 days of cardio to my current six days a week weight training regiment. I did all that while working at my job.
My first bikini competition was in July of 2015. Being a first time competitor , I did really well and I placed 5th. My coach was very happy about that. After my first show, my friends and family members would ask me for fitness advice and nutritional help. This made me realize that I can help others to achieve the results that they want for their fitness goals.
After that I decided to get my personal training certification in 2016 and pursued my career as a full time trainer at Equinox.
During the pandemic when gyms and businesses closed in 2020, many personal trainers including myself lost their jobs. However my quick thinking prompted me to start training clients online and outdoor spaces at gyms and offices. That’s how Jazzii Fitness was born in 2021.
The best part of what I get to do with my career is that not only I’m helping clients reach their fitness goals, but I’m also building strong relationships with diverse people and watching them build their confidence.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My advice for people who are starting in this industry is:
1) To start at a corporate gym- the gym taught me how to build my business and how to train clients.
2) To learn from your peers- even if you’re an expert, you can always learn more.
3) Pick your strongest expertise- Ex. I help women in glute building and corrective exercise for all ages.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Honestly I don’t have an ideal client. When I first started I only wanted to work with clients who didn’t have any injuries and they just wanted to lose weight or gain muscle. Now I mostly train people who are overcoming an injury and regaining their strength.
