Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Crystal Marie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Crystal, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience comes from me learning from my past. Let that be mistakes, childhood, school, relationships or just life in general. I tell myself if I’m going through a tough situation that someone might be going through something worse than me. So I always try to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I always try to remember no matter what I go through this will pass and I have to make sure I learn from whatever it is that I am going through. Its easier to sit and wallow but pushing through and being proactive builds character.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
MY name is Crystal Marie, I am the owner of Crystal Berrys where I hand make Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Pretzels and more. I developed Crystal Berrys in 2015. I also am the owner of The Marketplace located in Livonia, MI inside Laurel Park Place. Originally the store opened in 2020 inside Westland Mall under the name It’s an Experience Marketplace. With the dissolve of that company I renamed the store The Marketplace and moved it from Westland to Livonia. My Grand Opening is Saturday September 16th at 2pm. I am super excited.
Professionally I am focused on building The Marketplace brand. The Marketplace is a platform for local Small Businesses to build their brand and have a storefront to call their home. The concept is similar to a pop up shop, but in a department store environment. Ideally you should see The Marketplace in more than one location so building my brand is the first step to achieving that goal.
The idea and concept of The Marketplace just simply works. The exciting part of The Marketplace is the platform for other businesses to build and profit off their businesses in a store front. We are always looking for businesses to join us as a permanent or join our pop up events.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Having a vision and not loosing sight of it is the most important. You have to see it through in order for you to determine if it works or not. Once you see that it works then giving up when it gets tough makes you a failure even with a working functioning concept.
Always remember business is not personal and you can’t expect to lead without respect. That goes both ways you have to give respect to get it. With respect comes loyalty and people that will fight for your dream as much as your fighting for it. Once business gets personal it starts to fall apart and you loose that respect.
Have a solid business plan, a plan that works with or without your presence. If it falls apart in your absence then you need to reevaluate.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
It depends. There are some circumstances that warrant you to go all in, and that’s when you DONT second guess your strengths. When you go all in without evaluating the circumstances it can fair badly for you. I heard a GREAT QUOTE: A smart man makes a mistake and learns from it and then never makes the mistake again. A wise man pays attention to a smart man and avoids the mistake all together. So when we have a well rounded view on things it makes it easier to know and understand our strengths and when to act upon them. Its always good to invest effort or constantly examine ourselves looking for areas that need improvement. We have to remember we are all born imperfect so there is NO area we don’t need to improve in, so investing in ourselves is vital.
