We recently connected with CRYSTAL REDGER and have shared our conversation below.
Hi CRYSTAL, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
Self-care is very important to me both personally and professionally. Professionally, I make artisanal bath spirits (bath bombs). They offer possible pain-relieving qualities, skin-softening properties, and enticing scents. To me, that is all part of self-care. You want to feel special, relaxed and luxurious. At least I do when I think about self-care. I have always loved baths and decided to share my love of having a bath kit. I started this business by gifting a “two-hour bath kit” to my friends at random times. All of them loved it and wanted more, so I decided to go ahead and try my hand at making bath bombs. I have to admit, this is one of my favorite self-care routines.
I also cook as part of my self-care. I have always just loved experimenting with scents, flavor profiles and just feeding people. I believe if you put good in you will get good out, therefore I put good food in my family’s bellies and I get good interaction out of it. Happy people making happy people.
To work off a little of the delicious eats I make doing yoga on an almost daily practice I love to feel all stretched out and ready to move no matter where my day may take me. Yoga also helps me breathe in high-anxiety situations that I come across during my day.
Whenever I don’t do these things or when I get to busy; I know we all get to busy sometimes, I can tell. I am sluggish and I don’t want to do the things that bring me joy. They quickly become a chore and I lose sight of my goals. So to keep up with the things I want to do and then things I have to do I need to invest time in myself. That is what self-care reminds me. I can accomplish anything I set my heart to, however, I need to take care of myself to make those dreams happen.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a housewife and bath spirit creator. I moved to Colorado from Kansas around 12 years ago to chase my dreams. Now at the time I had no clue what they were aside from my end retirement goal. My retirement goal was I want to own my own inn and be the chef. I want my own compound where the employees (family) live and thrive. We would grow our own food and be self-sustainable.
As I am working on making that dream happen, I got sick. I hurt all over and I could barely do the things I enjoyed anymore. I stopped working and became a “housewife” to my household of amazing adults. So I began my journey of finding out what was wrong and taking care of myself. I have always had an issue of taking care of myself before others. I found out I have fibromyalgia and I can do things. It will just take me a bit longer and a bit longer to recover. During this discovery time my roommate and business partner was getting frustrated because we loved the bath bomb craze. Loved the smells and the colors. Made bath time a real experience. I knew I wanted to have that happen for both me and my roommate. However, she is highly allergic to Cocoa butter and most bath bombs on the market have cocoa butter.
One evening, she challenged me to make a bath bomb that she could use. I did and now here we are. I am on my way of making my dream happen. My second dream of owning my own business is a great blessing. We love making people feel their best so they can do their best. Happy people making happy people.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say research is a great skill and needed. You have to love to research and be brave enough to try what you have researched. Those are some of the hardest things. I think I can do this, and it doesn’t turn out perfect the first time. It can be so discouraging, especially when it isn’t right on the tenth try. Resilience is also a skill one needs. You have to keep trying and trying. You may fail and want to give up. Keep going, it will be worth it.
Keep at it, keep thinking, keep trying. Heck, I am 3 years into my business and at times I want to give in. I don’t and won’t because I believe in my message of self-love.
Keep your head up, dream big and keep going.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
The biggest challenge I am facing is my crazy anxiety. I have to overcome that, so I can make sure my message and product make it into people’s homes. I can’t allow it to keep me indoors, at home, or in my comfort zone. I have opportunities to go into farmer’s markets, metaphysical stores, etc. I need to breathe and realize that I can do this. I was made to do this.
