Hi Crystal & Shomari, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Fondon Medspa is a women & minority owned business, founded by 2 best friends, Crystal and Shomari.
After years of working in sales on the strip, we wanted to pursue a career in a field that provided flexibility as well as positive change in the lives of others. This is a big contrast to the pressures of regular sales jobs.
One day, after being wrongfully fired from our last sales job (despite being the top sales employees in the company) we realized that we needed to become entrepreneurs if we wanted to make a real
Change in our lives and the lives of others. Shomari was studying nursing, and Crystal had been inspired by a friend named Yago to pursue Aesthetics. After losing our jobs, we realized our true passion was working in the beauty field, and with our respective fields of study, we had the ingredients needed to enter the Medspa business. Shortly after forming our LLC, Yago passed away. Despite navigating grief, we were able to push our business past the launch phase and into fully booked status within 3 months. Shortly after we signed for our first business lease and we have been growing ever since. We are proud of ourselves for not giving up when we were down and we know our friend Yago is proud of us as well.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Our mission at Fondon is to provide high quality aesthetic treatments while positively impacting the confidence of each of our clients. We love to promote wellness & wellbeing. We partner with women’s and children’s shelters such as Safenest in Las Vegas to spread awareness and give back to the community. We encourage everyone to pursue the best versions of themselves and we love being a part of their beauty journeys. Our plans for 2025 are to continue growing, and expanding into new markets. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The early days were filled with attempts to promote our small business, from handing flyers out at the mall, to door to door in the local neighborhoods. We were focused and determined to make it happen. But even before we became focused, we had to clarify our intention. We had to ask ourselves, what is something we would love to do and positively impact the lives of others. Inspired by the desire to make our own schedules and live on our own terms we jumped into entrepreneurship. The advice I would give others is to first dig and think about what skills and passions do they have to offer the world. Also, what is something they are able to spend tons of time on without getting sick of it. And then lastly, how bad do they want it? In our early days, we had a determination to make our business take off, whether it meant working and investing, we did everything and anything to make it happen.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
We are very fortunate to have each other as partners, who can compensate where each other lack, and push each other. We are able to split investments and get more done as a team. We also trust each other in business and in life. I encourage others to find people they are able to collaborate and build with, because having a strong team is a vital part of business success, as well as alleviates a lot of the pressures and expenses needed to start a new business.
