Meet Crystle Jones-Bond

We recently connected with Crystle Jones-Bond and have shared our conversation below.

Crystle , first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is something I deal with every day—it’s been a struggle for years. But recently I listened to a sermon that really changed things for me. It reminded me that I was chosen for this journey, and my only job is to do my best with what God has blessed me with. That shifted my whole perspective and saved me from getting stuck in those thoughts.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I like to call myself a multi-hyphen hair entrepreneur because my journey weaves together so many parts of beauty and wellness—celebrity natural hairstylist, salon owner, product chemist, author, and now working in TV and film hair departments. At the center of it all is Assuage Hair & Body in Murfreesboro, TN, where we focus on natural hair care and wellness. What makes us special is that it’s not just about styling hair—it’s about scalp health, education, and creating a space where clients can relax and reset.

One of the highlights of my career has been developing my product line, Classic Natural Haircare Salon Systems. I wanted semi-organic, high-quality products that truly work for natural textures. Seeing my team use them daily in the salon and watching how they transform hair is something I’ll never take for granted.

Outside of the salon, I’ve styled for TV shows and worked with the Country Music Association, and written books, including I Want to Go Natural Now What? My upcoming book, Salon Boss, is designed to help stylists build and grow their businesses—because talent alone isn’t enough in this industry.

Looking forward, I’m focused on expanding collaborations with other Black-owned businesses, growing the reach of my product line, and carving out more opportunities in entertainment. My bigger goal is to inspire the next generation of stylists to think bigger, dream wider, and know that if someone like me can do it, they can too.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three things that have shaped my journey the most are faith, resilience, and creativity. Faith keeps me grounded when this industry tests me. Resilience pushes me to keep going when things don’t go as planned. And creativity is what makes me stand out, whether it’s behind the chair, formulating products, or expanding my brand. My advice to anyone starting out is simple—stay rooted in your faith, don’t let setbacks stop you, and keep your creativity alive. Those three things will carry you further than you think.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
This past year my biggest growth has been in my confidence. I’ve dealt with imposter syndrome for years, but I’ve finally learned to quiet those thoughts and walk in the fact that I was chosen for this journey. Starting my TV and film work while still running a salon and product line has also pushed me to grow in balance and managing stress. I always preach self-care to my clients, so I had to ask myself—why don’t I do it too? I had to turn the same care I give to others back onto myself. That shift has helped me show up stronger, more grounded, and ready for every new opportunity coming my way.
