We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful CS And Patricia “Danger” Taber. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with CS and Patricia “Danger” below.
CS and Patricia “Danger”, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
When we were kids, we lived without modern distractions. No TV, no radio, no phone. No social media. Only books, family, and friends. Direct contact or the printed word. Nothing more.. But we had imagination!
Danger and I were born in Central African Republic and spent much of our childhood in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Zaire (now the DRC), and Sudan. We had loving and creative parents and three sisters to build our worlds with. We did not feel deprived. We wrote stories, poetry, performed plays, sang music. We were immersed in creativity from birth.
When we moved back to the U.S. as teenagers, it was natural to continue devoting our energy and time to the creative arts. We formed several bands, including the folk-rock quartet, Three a.m. I wrote music, fiction, and eventually non-fiction books, returning to a singular focus on music during COVID. Danger worked in theater, art design, and music. In 2021, we began making music together again in the folk-rock duo, Chucky Trading Co. CTC combines our passion for writing, performing, telling stories, and visual art.
Our unusual upbringing, and the lifelong passion it sparked, keeps our creativity alive.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Chucky Trading Co beats with the heart of 1970s Laurel Canyon, bringing original folk-rock songs to modern audiences across the globe. Reminiscent of classic bands like Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles, CTC spins modern, guitar-driven gold with acoustic instruments and tight harmonies. If you love The Head and the Heart or Brandi Carlile, this folk-rock duo will make you smile.
The first CTC album (2021) contains 15 heartfelt songs that explore love, life, and human nature. A new album, “A Sky of Hopes,” was released to critical acclaim in May 2025. Written and produced by CS Taber, and performed by CS and Patricia “Danger” Taber. “Sky” features the memorable vocal harmonies and riveting storytelling of CS and Danger Taber. In many ways, “A Sky of Hopes” reveals a more intimate view of CTC.
Our music has been described as theatrical story-telling. We also feature videos for many of our songs in our YouTube channel. A new song, “Hero”, will be released on January 23. “Hero” is a progressive folk-rock tale of war and human limitations, set in Middle Earth.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Danger and I share a passion for language, and I think that is one building block for creative expression. We love wordplay, puzzles, good writing. We enjoy learning other languages.
We both enjoy story-telling. Our family read aloud when we were young and we spent significant time in Appalachia, where story-telling is an art. Danger’s theater background and talent is incredibly helpful also.
We were taught not to fear mistakes. Failure is always an artist’s companion on their creative journey. I advise new creative artists to embrace their mistakes. Don’t just learn from them; revel in them.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
We live in separate cities 900 miles apart, so most of our writing, arranging, and production happens through remote technology. Distance is also a roadblock to live performance. Technology, however, has been amazing. Through shared workspaces, text, facetime, zoom, etc., we keep the creative flame alive! There is even software we can use to overcome sync and lag issues so we should be able to practice together remotely in the future!
