Meet Curlene Chambers

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Curlene Chambers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Curlene, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I developed the ability to take risk when I realized that if I didn’t, the mental stress I was going through would remain the same. Living in a big city such as New York on your own is no task for the light hearted by any means, but I knew my character and how detailed and organized I am when it comes to planning ahead and being mindful that it was a task I could take on. So I took the risk and here I am living a little bit better than what I was in my prior situation.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So I started having an interest in fashion and lifestyle, blogging years and years ago, and that’s why I began experimenting with platforms such as Instagram, WordPress, and YouTube. I would make YouTube videos and blog post and just try to create as much content as I felt I could and in the interim I started to connect with more likeminded people who enjoyed what I posts. Fast forward to today, Instagram is my most used social media platform for anything fashion/ lifestyle related. I am working on releasing a podcast with a good friend of mine where we will tackle subjects such as women’s mental health, dating life and managing careers. So it’s been a busy few years but I’ve always been passionate about this type of work even though it’s not full time for me, one day I know it can bloom into something greater.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say the three most important skills that anyone should have in any journey they’re taking in their life, whether it be personal or professional, definitely should be perseverance, dedication, and consistency. Im still trying to actively practice these things because life is not a straight path at all, but everyday I’m seeing that more and more you have to hone in on those qualities to truly be successful.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Being in my own now for over a year. I’ve learned more about boundaries, budgeting and prioritizing my time more than ever. As adults there’s always so much that we try to accomplish, but you also have to know when to take a step back. So Ive definitely been putting these things more into practice and it’s only getting better each day.
