Meet Curtesha Howell

We were lucky to catch up with Curtesha Howell recently and have shared our conversation below.

Curtesha, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
My self care consist of journaling and creating through my writing . I actually created and published a self-love and healing journal, titled “Showing Me A Little Love.” It is available on Amazon. Creating this journal allowed me to reassess, reflect and helped me express my thoughts and feelings during my own battle of depression. I now use my journal to help guide others through their healing journey.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Along with publishing my first journal, I am the founder of a nonprofit sisterhood organization called DOK (daughters of the King) sistersunited Inc. alongside my little sister Kira Howell.

Our mission to build an uplifting empowering and connecting sisterhood. Providing resources to help with personal development. We are not just a sisterhood , we also cater to our community by way of giving care packages and feeding those less fortunate, toy drives for our local children , supporting hard working women with free promotion and more! Connect with us via Facebook and Instagram @doksistersunited.

As of recently , I branded my new role as a mental health coach, using my personal knowledge, skills and experiences to help others. I recently launched a new podcast channel via Spotify called, “Talks with coach Tesha.” Be sure to check it out! I use my platform to discuss mental health tips, advice and other related topics.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Effective communication : this helped me to open up to those who created a safe space to hear me out and help me along my journey .

Creativity: I learned new ways to be creative and solve problems by expressing myself through writing .

Awareness: I began to learn more about mental health and began raising awareness to help reduce the stigma associated.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, I am looking to connect with schools , therapists and counselors. I do believe my self-love and healing journal would be a great tool for those who mentor, coach or counsel others. I also would love to network with other sisterhood organizations whether it be for speaking engagements, events or community outreach ministries.
