Meet Curtis Kelley

We were lucky to catch up with Curtis Kelley recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Curtis, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In a world where we appear to be so divided, we’ve taken the approach to be a connector of people. Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to be in many different rooms and immersed in different cultures. From our understanding, many of our problems come from a lack of understanding and communication so we chose to create a platform for people to learn about other facets of culture in a fun and enlightening way.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
We are people of the people, simple as that. We work to help others how to understand how we move and fit together in this world of ours. As a military veteran/servant leader and now DE&I practitioner, I have an incredible job where I can educate people and organizations on the benefits of a diverse and inclusive culture. From a podcasting perspective, I get to have conversations that people may not be comfortable having but can still learn from others. We’ve extended our capabilities with our new consulting company C.R.E.I.D (Culture, Resilience, Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity). C.R.I.E.D. helps organizations build a purpose-driven culture using human-centered solutions. We strive to foster a culture of resiliency and inclusion that values the unique perspectives and experiences of all individuals. We believe that by embracing diversity and prioritizing mental and emotional health, we can create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Team Building, Resilience, and Leadership Development have all been vital skillsets that we’ve grown over the years through either formal or informal means. A lot of this was gained through trial and error but the benefit far outweighed the cost in the end. It feels good to help others with their own journey and empower them to pursue goals. Our advice would be to step outside the box with your thinking and find different yet effective ways to reach your goals. Another piece of advice would be to not wait and act. While you’re waiting, someone else is potentially hard at work on the same goal you may be pursing.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Someone who may want to get a message out to an audience but may be hesitant. Podcasting can be intimidating but this is where we come in to assist. We offer a beginners podcasting course and production services where all the host does is speak and we take care of the rest. Regarding C.R.E.I.D, an ideal client for us is one that is ready to make an organizational change from a Human Resource perspective but don’t know exactly where to begin. It doesn’t matter the size just as long as they’re ready to put in the work to create a better sense of belonging for their people.
