We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Curtis Nugin a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Curtis, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Resilience is not just a trait I’ve developed over time; it’s been forged in the fire of adversity.
My journey has been marked by unexpected twists and turns, but it’s taught me that resilience is about more than just bouncing back – it’s about growing stronger.
When life knocks you down, it’s easy to stay down. But I’ve learned that with determination and perseverance, you can overcome even the toughest challenges.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a life insurance agent, I’m passionate about helping families and individuals secure their financial futures. What excites me most about my job is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives by providing them with peace of mind and protection for their loved ones. I’m dedicated to building long-term relationships with my clients, understanding their unique needs, and tailoring solutions to fit their goals. Currently, I’m focused on growing my business and expanding my reach to serve more communities in the Chicago area, including Hammond, Indiana, where I’m based. My goal is to empower people to take control of their financial well-being and create a lasting legacy for generations to come.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I believe the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, communication skills, and relationship-building. My advice for folks early in their journey would be to focus on developing these areas. Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, invest in continuous skill development, and prioritize building meaningful connections with others. By doing so, you’ll be well-equipped to navigate obstacles, achieve your goals, and make a lasting impact in your field.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
If I knew I only had a decade left, I’d focus on what truly matters to me. I’d spend quality time with my loved ones, especially my wife, daughters son, and grandchildren, creating lasting memories and strengthening our bond.
I’d also prioritize my passions, like traveling to new places and experiencing different cultures. Given my interest in polo, I’d love to attend polo tournaments in beautiful locations around the world.
Personally, I’d focus on self-care, mindfulness, and gratitude, making sure to appreciate each day’s beauty. I’d also give back to my community, volunteering and sharing my experiences to inspire others.
Professionally, I’d concentrate on leaving a lasting legacy in my life insurance business, mentoring others, and sharing my knowledge to make a positive impact.
Ultimately, my goal would be to live intentionally, cherish every moment, and make the most of the time I have.
