Meet Curtiss Wheeler

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Curtiss Wheeler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Curtiss below.

Curtiss, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
My optimism came from my childhood. I was raised by a single Mother who always wanted better for me and did everything in her power to make life easy for me even when I knew it was hard for her. Observing that growing up I realized that life could only get better. Even when life seems difficult I understand that there will always be better days ahead even at times when I couldn’t quite see it yet. I was raised in a low income area in Atlanta Ga specifically the 4th ward area. Although in my household my mother made sure I always had a home and happy childhood I often would see external conditions that neighbors and childhood peers would often go through. You begin to develop optimism and motivation and understand life could be worse!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the owner of Allsect Pest Control! We offer Pest Control/Mosquito and several other services under the same umbrella! Recently we have started to expand into the realm of wildlife area of pest control. We are offering alternatives to wildlife exclusion services that are very expensive. We are looking to provide a more reasonable cost to consumers. Also we are focusing on seniors and low income family’s that need pest control services but can’t quite afford the average pest control pricing that the industry presents. Pests can present many issues health wise and everyone should be able to afford pest control. I am happy to say we have been able to help a lot of people this past year just by understanding the needs of the community. I hope to continue to help people on a case by case basis!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Of course I have the expertise and knowledge to solve pest issues. There are certain qualities that are hard to come by that I try to remember. You have to be personable. I can’t stress enough how building relationships genuinely with people are critical. Honesty is another quality that people value. I tell people all the time that I’m not a salesman and I never intend to be. People don’t want to be sold but rather be taken care of. If you take care of people the honesty sells everything for you. A great memory is a great quality. It’s important for me to remember things that are important to people. It can be certain things about family or events. It goes along way and people value attentiveness and memory.

The best advice I can give to people is to always remain grounded. Always remember every relationship you develop always cherish it. It will eventually separate you from others and serve you well.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
There are two books. The first is “You Owe You” by Eric Thomas. One of my favorite quotes is “You cannot afford to live in the potential phase for the rest of your life; at some point, you have to unleash the potential and make your move” I waited for someone to allow me to unleash my potential for a long time but it was truly up to me to make that move, and I’m so happy I did! Eric Thomas teaches you a lot about achieving greatness even through pain. The second book was “Business Principles from the Bible” for me it is important to keep God apart of my journey and there are a lot of principles even if someone is not religious can take from this book.
