Meet Cuzin Berto

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cuzin Berto a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Cuzin , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem the very first time that I stepped on stage to tell jokes. I suffered from panic attacks all my life and fear paralyzed me to the point to where I developed agoraphobia so I would avoid places, and avoid doing certain things because of my fear in getting a panic attacks. I always wanted to be a comedian but getting panic attacks kept me from stepping on a stage. About 10 years ago, I began receiving treatment for my panic attacks and now I’ve been doing stand-up comedy alittle over eight years now.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a stand-up comedian, social media influencer, writer, and actor. The most exciting part about stand-up comedy is seeing you in the crowd laughing at my jokes hoping that you leave one of my shows impacted whether it be from one of my jokes, or from my ugly laugh, or simply meeting you.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe that the three qualities that have helped my journey thus far is to stay humble, be positive, and open to learning. Staying humble is essential because it keeps you level headed and grounded. Always be positive and ready to laugh it off. Sometimes things may happen in my comedy journey that may not go as planned but what has always helped me is being positive. I’m always in the mood to laugh because laughter has gotten me through some of my hardest moments in life. My advice to a newer comedian/s is to take constructive criticism, be open to learning, do as much stage time as possible, and respect the clock and don’t ignore the light.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The person most instrumental in my success is my best friend, Irma Ruiz. She has given me so many opportunities and a lot of those opportunities have allowed me to find my voice on stage and be a better, funnier comedian.
