We were lucky to catch up with Cydanni Adenikinju, MPH, CHES recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cydanni, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Honestly, I still feel imposter syndrome from time to time.
What I’m doing to reduce the feeling of imposter syndrome is reflective journaling. Reflective journaling involves writing in your journal and revisiting previous entries to reflect on your growth. Through the power of reflection, I remind myself of all that I’ve accomplished—including both the small and big wins, as well as the lessons learned along the way. This method helps lessen the feeling of imposter syndrome by increasing awareness of my capabilities, achievements, and competencies.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge are:
I would say my limitless creativity, the skills I developed in the beverage and event industry, and my knowledge of gardening, holistic wellness, and the culinary arts. A combination of all these skills has shaped a unique perspective on how I approach the health and wellness industry.
Anyone early in their entrepreneurial journey needs to have a strong sense of who they are and what they bring to their industry. It’s okay to have a similar product or service, but an entrepreneur needs to pause and observe what makes their business unique—and how all their skills and experiences can work together to enhance what they bring to the table.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a step back and think about the source of the feeling. I then try to categorize it. For instance: Is this something within my control? Is it a priority? Is there another way to achieve the same result?
After answering these questions, I move forward and adjust my workload if necessary by removing an item from my to-do list that is not mandatory or a high priority.
