We were lucky to catch up with Cylenthia King recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cylenthia , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Thanks for having me! My work ethic comes from a variety of sources including my family, culture and personal values. At an early age, my parents instilled in me the importance of hard work. At home, it was clear that you had to work for what you want. So my work ethic came natural based on my upbringing and experiences encountered while growing up. That doesn’t mean that I never encountered challenges or struggles, however in the face of difficulties and setbacks, I always leaned on my family and support system to overcome. And because of this, I’ve developed a strong work ethic and resilience in everything that I do.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Sure! My name is Cylenthia, I am the owner and makeup artist of C. Ariel Artistry, based out of Richmond, VA. I have been in the makeup industry for 8 years now and provide makeup services for bridal, weddings and special occasions! Over the past 3 years, I have built my business and brand around my love for all things makeup, beauty and style! It has been a journey but I wouldn’t change a thing. As a makeup artist, I get the opportunity to work with so many beautiful women from various backgrounds. It’s rewarding to be able to learn from these women I service and take time to get to know them on a personal level. My love for helping women feel great about themselves and the reactions of each of my clients brings me pure joy. To me, makeup is more than just colors. It’s a chance for women to step out of their everyday and into something wonderful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three most important qualities that were most impactful in my journey as a business owner and makeup artist was being patience, being authentic, and being open-minded. One advice I would give to someone who is early on in their journey is to always take time to invest in yourself. Investing in yourself can increase your well-being, knowledge and skills which can benefit you both personally and professionally.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always looking to collaborate with others! I love collaborating with makeup artists and other creatives including photographers, hairstylist and art directors to name a few. I’m always open for collaboration and hope to connect and build new partnerships with others via Instagram @c.arielartistry, by email [email protected], or by my website at www.carielartistry.com.
