We were lucky to catch up with Cynthia 林意 recently and have shared our conversation below.

Cynthia, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

My purpose didn’t arrive all at once—it revealed itself slowly, shaped by quiet moments, meaningful connections, and the satisfaction of helping others and creating things that matter. It’s not a perfect path, but a direction guided by the values I cherish and the lessons I’ve learned. I’ve come to understand that true purpose isn’t something you simply find—it’s something you live, every day, with intention, compassion, and curiosity.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Cynthia Lim 林意—a music composer, pianist, performer, and piano tutor who uses music as a bridge between emotions, stories, and people. I create pieces that blend classical elegance with modern sensibilities, aiming to evoke imagery and heartfelt connection. I also teach piano, guiding students to discover their unique musical voice, which constantly inspires my own growth. Currently, I’m working on a global composition series exploring themes of solitude, belonging, and nature, set to launch later this year alongside a performance showcase. My work centers on emotional connection, storytelling through sound, and nurturing musical growth that resonates deeply with others. You can find me on Instagram @cynpiano ❤️🎹. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities have shaped my musical journey: emotional sensitivity, resilience, and curiosity. Being deeply attuned to emotion helps me create resonant compositions and teach with empathy. Discipline and persistence keep me grounded through challenges, while curiosity fuels my growth as a composer, performer, and teacher. I believe in listening deeply, failing gracefully, and staying open to lifelong learning—because music, like life, is a constant unfolding.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Faith has been my compass throughout my music journey—God’s grace has guided me, placing the right people in my life at just the right time. My family’s unwavering support and belief in my artistry gave me strength through doubt, while close friends have offered heartfelt encouragement in both triumph and challenge. Every step has been lit by divine presence and loving community, reminding me that true success is born from faith, connection, and gratitude.
