Meet Cynthia Cooper

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cynthia Cooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Cynthia , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
As a Spiritual Development Life Coach and Author navigating rooms where I’m the sole representation of my background has been a journey of self-discovery and adaptation. In these spaces, I’ve honed the art of humility, entering as a perpetual student, eager to glean insights and understand diverse perspectives. Central to my approach is the unwavering belief that beneath titles and appearances, we’re all fundamentally human.

Mastering the business of people has been my secret weapon. By connecting on a personal level, I bypass barriers and foster genuine rapport. I’ve learned to see invitations not just as acknowledgments of my qualifications but as opportunities to amplify voices that may otherwise go unheard.

I’ve embraced the role of an educator, recognizing that my experiences serve as windows into a world that may be unfamiliar to others. Rather than aiming to persuade or impose my viewpoint, I aim to enlighten and broaden horizons. Whether sharing tales of triumph or recounting struggles, my goal remains to foster empathy and encourage shifts in perspective.

Through these encounters, I’ve cultivated resilience and empathy, allowing me to thrive even when I’m the solitary figure in the room. By embracing humility, connecting on a human level, and embracing my role as an educator, I’ve not only navigated these spaces successfully but also facilitated meaningful dialogue and understanding.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Cynthia Cooper, but I go by the moniker “The Sober Soul.” My mission is to empower women to create lives they don’t feel the need to escape from. As a certified Life, Business, and Christian Coach, I specialize in guiding individuals through spiritual development, helping them find stability and fulfillment to achieve their goals and live their best lives.

I am the proud Founder of SoberChics Inc, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering community and support for women on their journey toward emotional wellness, personal growth, and spiritual development. Through SoberChics, we provide resources, workshops, and a safe space for women to connect, heal, and thrive.

Currently, I’m thrilled to announce the upcoming launch of my new book, “Lessons on Sobriety: Shifting from Religion to Relationship with God.” In this book, I share insights and personal experiences aimed at helping individuals navigate their spiritual journey, moving away from rigid religious structures towards a deeper, more intimate relationship with the Creator.

What excites me most about my work is witnessing the transformation and empowerment of the women I serve. Seeing them break free from self-limiting beliefs, embrace their worth, and step into their God-given potential is incredibly rewarding. I am passionate about walking alongside them on their journey to wholeness and helping them discover the joy and fulfillment that comes from living authentically and purposefully.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, determination, and grace for oneself.

Resilience allowed me to bounce back from setbacks and adversity, pushing through challenges even when things seemed insurmountable. Determination kept me focused on my goals, driving me forward with unwavering commitment and purpose. And grace for oneself reminded me to be kind and patient with myself, acknowledging that growth and progress take time and self-compassion.

For those early in their journey, my advice would be to cultivate these qualities intentionally:

1. Resilience: Embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. View setbacks as temporary obstacles rather than insurmountable barriers. Practice resilience by reframing setbacks as learning experiences and drawing on past successes to fuel your perseverance.

2. Determination: Set clear, achievable goals and commit to pursuing them relentlessly. Break down larger goals into smaller, actionable steps, and celebrate each accomplishment along the way. Cultivate a mindset of determination by visualizing your success, staying focused on your goals, and maintaining a positive attitude, even in the face of obstacles.

3. Grace for Oneself: Be gentle with yourself, especially during times of struggle or uncertainty. Recognize that setbacks and failures are a natural part of the journey and offer yourself the same kindness and understanding you would extend to a friend. Practice self-care, prioritize your well-being, and cultivate a mindset of self-acceptance and forgiveness.

By nurturing these qualities—resilience, determination, and grace for oneself—you can navigate challenges with ease, stay focused on your goals, and cultivate a sense of inner strength and peace that will serve you well on your journey.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My faith in God has been the cornerstone of my journey. Additionally, the countless women whom God has placed in my life have played instrumental roles in nurturing and developing the essential skills, qualities, and knowledge needed for success. They have been my mentors, confidantes, and cheerleaders, offering wisdom, encouragement, and steadfast support through the various challenges and seasons of life. Their presence and guidance have been invaluable, reminding me of my worth, empowering me to embrace my potential, and uplifting me during times of doubt or adversity. Their belief in me has fueled my determination and resilience, inspiring me to continue pressing forward on my journey with faith and confidence.
