We were lucky to catch up with Cynthia Gary recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Cynthia , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
What makes me resilient?
I was raised by my father — a strong Black man who grew up in a time where resilience wasn’t optional, it was essential for survival. From a young age, he instilled in me the importance of strength, perseverance, and grit. He would always say, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going,” and I’ve carried that with me through every challenge life has thrown my way.
I was taught to keep pushing, no matter what. To me, quitting isn’t an option — because the only way to truly lose is to stop trying. That mindset has shaped who I am: someone who shows up, stands firm, and keeps going — even when it’s hard.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I launched Wells Consulting Firm in late 2019 with one mission: to empower entrepreneurs, especially those from underserved communities, with the legal, financial, and strategic support they need to build sustainable businesses and reclaim financial freedom. What started as a solo operation rooted in my personal passion for compliance, credit, and entrepreneurship has now evolved into a full-service consulting firm helping individuals and small business owners across Texas — and beyond.
We specialize in business formation, credit education, compliance management, and strategic consulting, all designed to remove the guesswork and roadblocks from building a legitimate, scalable company. One of the most exciting aspects of what I do is showing clients how powerful they are once they’re equipped with the right tools — whether it’s disputing inaccurate credit items, launching a nonprofit, or finally turning a side hustle into a formal business.
What makes Wells Consulting Firm unique is that we’re not just about paperwork or filing forms — we’re about education, empowerment, and elevation. I take pride in making sure every client understands their next step, why it matters, and how to stay compliant and competitive.
Right now, we’re expanding our digital services. I’ve launched a free credit guide and training series to help individuals take control of their personal credit, and I’m getting ready to release our DIY Credit Mastery Course, which is designed to walk users through the exact steps they need to repair, rebuild, and leverage their credit — all at their own pace.
We’re also automating key services like registered agent onboarding and rolling out new resources to support nonprofit founders, small business owners, and those seeking funding. For me, this work is deeply personal. I know what it feels like to want more for yourself and your family but not know where to start. Wells Consulting Firm is here to be that starting point — and the strategy partner that walks with you as you grow.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are integrity, communication, and leadership. These aren’t just buzzwords to me — they’ve been foundational in building my brand, my client relationships, and my own personal growth as an entrepreneur.
Integrity has guided every decision I’ve made. When you’re in the consulting space — dealing with people’s businesses, credit, and compliance — trust is everything. I knew early on that if I wanted to build a brand that people could rely on, I had to be consistent, transparent, and committed to doing things the right way, even when no one is watching.
Communication has been the bridge between me and the people I serve. Whether I’m walking a client through their first business formation or explaining a credit dispute process, I’ve learned that clear, honest, and compassionate communication builds confidence and loyalty. It helps your audience not only understand your value — but believe in it.
Leadership has been about showing up, setting the example, and staying grounded even when things get hard. As the face of Wells Consulting Firm, I’ve had to be the first one in and the last one out, especially when serving clients who are just learning to trust themselves as business owners.
My advice to anyone just starting their journey? Just do it. You’re probably going to feel unready. You’re going to question if you’re good enough. That imposter syndrome is real — but don’t let it stop you. The ducks are rarely all in a row when you begin. Sometimes, you figure it out as you go. Sometimes, things don’t align until you take that first step.
There’s no perfect time — but there is power in starting. You grow through the doing. Show up with integrity, communicate clearly, lead confidently — and trust that everything else can be rearranged along the way.
How would you describe your ideal client?
Our ideal client is someone who’s ready to take their business or financial goals seriously — and understands the value of doing things the right way from the start. Whether they’re a first-time entrepreneur, a nonprofit founder, or someone trying to repair and rebuild their credit, what matters most is that they’re committed, coachable, and ready to take action
