We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cynthia Height. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cynthia below.
Hi Cynthia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Along the journey of life, our confidence and self-esteem are built and rebuilt. There are hard seasons for sure which can rock your confidence and then the opportunity arises for you to stand up taller than before. For me, that season came after a failed foster care adoption. They say that foster youth bring a lot of baggage, but I was not prepared for the emotional suitcases that filled my home in a very short timeframe. After the placement came to an end, I saw a broken shell of myself in the mirror, day after day. Shortly after that, the first opportunity came to rebuild my confidence and self-esteem, in a different package that I was not expecting. I started writing a blog, Dear Ms Anonymous. It was a love letter to women who felt unseen, unheard, and living in a dark season of life. Writing the blog was a true journey of self-discovery. And along the way, I found me. Writing about topics such as self-confidence, self-care, self-esteem, self-worth… it was truly about uncovering and truly taking care of the self. I realized that during the foster care placement, I took care of everyone else… except for myself. When I finally took a long hard look in the mirror, I saw a face I recognized from decades prior – a face filled with acne. The stress took a toll on my skin. I didn’t know how to fix it, but I knew I had to try. My next opportunity showed up to build my confidence and self-esteem, in the form of Mary Kay skincare products. Day after day of taking time to really just take care of me in front of the bathroom mirror twice a day helped my skin. But it also helped me finally start to love myself, again. To finally start to see myself, again. To grow my confidence again. It’s been a journey for sure.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Cynthia Height, online personal branding coach, and women’s empowerment writer. Writing is my love language, and coaching is my passion and purpose. The work I do as an online personal branding coach is built on the foundation of self-discovery. I love to help female entrepreneurs shine on social media, and in real life. The best way to do this is to become your own brand. Create the brand of YOU! It’s about knowing who you are so that when you show up, you don’t feel that imposter syndrome. No one can outdo you, because no one else is you.
My brand Dear Ms Anonymous is not just a blog, it’s also a movement. I love inspiring women to show up, share their story authentically, and shine.
On March 1st, I launched my ebook, “Brand Brilliance: A Beginner’s Guide to Building Your Authentic Personal Brand.” In the ebook I share insights, strategies and tips to help entrepreneurs craft a compelling personal brand that truly reflects who they are and what they stand for. My goal through Brand Brilliance is to help the reader discover the power of their uniqueness in building their brand and their business.
The next session of my 4 week personal branding workshop “You 2.0” begins in April! During the workshop, I work collaboratively with the students to design their personal brand. I love this workshop because I know that most people have a vault of ideas and a belly full of passion for the work they want to create in the world. We get to uncover all of that inside of the workshop and figure out how to use those unique parts of themselves to build a brand that stands out in a crowded marketplace.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The number one skill that has been most impactful in my journey is storytelling. Everyone has a unique story to share, and everyone loves a good story. Why not use your story in your business as a way to connect with your ideal customer/client? Facts tell, stories sell… and that’s the truth!
Next, I love the power of collaboration. When people get together to share ideas, there’s no telling what can happen! It’s super exciting to get a group of like-minded people together from different walks of life. That’s where magic is created!
And last, but not least, courage. In order to get a new result, sometimes you have to be willing to try something new or different. If you have an idea, even if you’re scared, pursue it. Your wildest dreams may come true!
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is a female entrepreneur, especially in the network marketing or direct selling space. Often, these women start their business with great intentions and passion… only to have their enthusiasm die down when they realize it’s not as easy as it seems. My ideal client struggles with standing out… mostly because she’s a shy, introverted, quiet woman. She likes the idea of building a business, but doesn’t quite know how to make it her own. She is looking to the left and to the right at all of the other consultants who are in her company, sharing the same company-made graphics, and showing up like every other person who sells those products. She feels imposter syndrome really hard because she doesn’t think she’s cut out for this business… it looks like everyone but her is having success. When these women step into my orbit, they learn to see the value and uniqueness that is inside of them. We work to bring all of that out. We collaborate and find ideas that can help them stand out and share their products in unique ways. I help them elevate the way they are currently showing up, become the face of their business, so that they are truly seen and heard. They learn how to create a powerful message that attracts their ideal client. These women learn to share their product and business stories in a way that connects with the people they know they are meant to serve. It’s truly incredible how it all comes together. In less than 4 weeks they show up as a brand new version of themselves… and they can finally be themselves in their business.
