Meet Cynthia Lee

We were lucky to catch up with Cynthia Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.

Cynthia, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from hearing my family travel from Laos to the United States during the Vietnam War. I remember hearing about my mom and her family traveling together and where my fathers family started in the United States. I really would not be where I am today without my family.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi my name is Cynthia Lee, I am an entrepreneur amongst the second generation of Hmong Americans. I was born and raised in Michigan and started my journey of a certified Lash technician at the age of 18. At that time the lash industry became more and more popular with the help of social media platforms. The timing of starting my journey couldn’t have been more perfect. My business started in my brother’s basement, and it was a hit, but I felt stuck as I was only able to do lashes. So, I went to school to become a licensed Esthetician to expand my skills. In April of 2022 I graduated and opened Khonsu Esthetics; one of the most exciting moments in my life. Not only has Khonsu Esthetics been successful but my personal growth as an individual. When I say my personal growth, I mean helping others who are following their dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Being able to mentor others is also something exciting, thus Khonsu Esthetics has become more than just a salon that offered services. I have now been licensed as an instructor and plan to expand Khonsu Esthetics into something larger; as they say the sky is the limit.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back three factors that are and still the most impactful in my journey is my mental state of mind, determination, and adaptability. My advice is for others is that your business to be successful you must have a strong mental state of mind. You must be willing to accept the risks in being an entrepreneur. That if something may not turn out right it doesn’t mean all has failed. One’s determination to try again or move up the ladder will be in the favor of your business. Continuous education whether it be a class, attending a conference or networking with others can keep you up to date with the world’s changes. Constantly evaluating and analyzing the trends and changes in technology will keep your business up float.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
The biggest area of improvement the past 12 months has been growing my team, upgrading to a bigger space and the ability to be assertive in all aspects of my career and personal life.
