Meet D Shawn

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful D Shawn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi D, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

By focusing on being myself, not comparing my life and journey to others. I think when people compare themselves to other people that leaves you suspect to doing something that’s not really who you are.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I love being able to perform and inspire people, it’s a powerful thing to be able to change others moods and emotions by touching them musically. It’s also an amazing thing to create music and watch your music come to live with collaborations with movies and TV Shows. It just gives my music another identity that you can see.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the closed doors, and the losses were so important. Without those moments I wouldn’t have had the courage to keep going, or the resilience to see any situation through knowing that it’s going to work out for my good regardless.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My faith in God. He says in his word for us to cast all our cares and issues to him because he cares for us. A lot of times my issues are too heavy for me to carry on my own. My faith in God always reminds me that I don’t have to carry my issues by myself, and that God is always there to see me through my situations.

Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?

Culture, economic circumstances, family traditions, local customs and more can often influence us more than

What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
