Meet D Smoove

We were lucky to catch up with D Smoove recently and have shared our conversation below.

D, so great to have you on the platform and excited to have you share your wisdom with our community today. Communication skills often play a powerful role in our ability to be effective and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your communication skills.

I love helping others, and having effective communication is a big reason why. I struggle buying products from someone I can’t understand, or who doesn’t explain themself well. Communication is attached to our self identity and I take pride in that personally. As a business owner, without effective communication, I risk losing clients or not even earning one to begin. Each contact I make, my goal is to be the greatest listener of all time. This allows me to effectively learn the most about that individual. If patient enough while asking the right questions, there’s a strong possibility you’ll get the answers you’re looking for to help.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a Husband, Father, and Friend who also happens to be a Professional DJ. Utah has been home for the past eight years and I’m okay with that. It’s beautiful here! Music calls my name each and everyday. I love just about all genres which makes being a Disk Jockey the greatest.
We currently are averaging just over 50 shows a year. This number ranges from Corporate events, Weddings, NCAA sports games, Birthday parties and more. Our focus is to continue expanding the D Smoove brand across the globe one step at a time.
What I do brings joy to myself and my family. When working with clients, the booking process from start to finish always brings a rush of joy and excitement.
From planning to the itinerary, the venue visits, the music prep, etc. This path has been a true blessing and I look forward to learning and growing more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say being coachable is one of my greatest strengths. Coming from a sports background, I always valued being coached by those who seek to excel me to being a greater version of myself.
Another area I feel is impacting my journey is my relationship skills towards others. I try my best to show love to everyone even on days I don’t feel my best. I care for others and I know that explains why I have great relationships and contacts.
The power of listening is probably one of the least practiced skills, but also, one of the most powerful traits to have. Being able to listen well only takes practice. Often we want to give advice or interrupt. Listening more and allows cool things happen for you. My advice for someone early in their growth journey would be to do everything you can to hire a coach or someone successful in the areas you want to grow into. For me, it has been a total gamechanger and has impacted how I approach relationships and business everyday.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Currently I am looking to collaborate with more professionals in the entertainment space. That can be DJ’s, Musicians, photographers, videographers, Florists, event planners, and more. Growing into an inclusive one stop shop takes a full team effort and when building a legit team, it takes time. I’m truly excited to get to grow in space with other rockstars in their specialty fields.
