Hi Dahlia, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Optimism? Certainly this comes from the many dogs I’ve worked with, saved and have been by side. No matter the circumstances, the conditions they were facing, the trials and tributes, the gleem in their yes never dimmed. They are the reason I never gave up.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the Founder/ Director for The Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation (MCABSL) and a Paralegal practicing Personal Injury and Animal Law. We’ve been around for over 20 years. We are a advocacy non-profit organization in Florida fighting Breed Specific Legislations, animal abuse, dog fighting and whatever else falls under that umbrella worldwide. Most recently, we played a mayor role in the lifting/repeal of the notorious “Miami Pit Bull Ban and removing any restricitions on dogs in Public Housing in Florida.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The 3 areas would be animal welfare, legislations/legal system and dog behaviour were particularly up front and center. Education and Awareness were the skills that impacted. Of course never giving up did the trick! For newbies taking any challenges in animal welfare, get your facts right, research and go for it.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The dogs…always the dogs!
