Meet Daisy Close

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Daisy Close a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daisy, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Hello! Thank you so much for having me! I am elated to be able to share my story with BoldJourney and all of your readers. Well, for starters, I grew up as an only child, so naturally, I always found myself working harder than the average kid by creating my own source of entertainment with the vast, and some might even dare to say bold, imagination I had. I have always been surrounded by people older than me. Whether that was adults, teachers, family members, or friends, I adapted to my surroundings and matured rather quickly. As the years passed, I grew stronger, as did my work ethic. I applied my ever-growing work ethic to everything I did. I applied it to my studies at school, my ambitions, my dreams and goals, and most importantly, towards myself and all I hope to accomplish in the future. My passion and love for acting, singing, and songwriting had also become stronger than ever over the course of the years, and I began to endure a work ethic like never before to catapult myself closer and closer towards achieving my dreams in the entertainment industry. My mom is also responsible for my work ethic. My mom immigrated to the United States from Peru so that her child could receive opportunities like never before. She wanted her child to receive the opportunities she longed for but never had growing up. She has sacrificed so much for me, and I don’t take any of it for granted. Ever since I was very young, she has taught me the importance of working hard and setting big dreams for myself. She has instilled a powerful work ethic and mindset in me from such a young age, as she speaks victory every day over my life. She has an unstoppable work ethic and a determination like no other. Her dream was to build a better life for herself and her child, starting from the ground up. As an adult, now realizing all the hard work she has put in to create such a life for myself inspires me to work harder and walk in her footsteps of success to provide her with the “American dream” she had come here with high hopes and a full heart, hoping to experience one day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Well, if you don’t know me yet, my name is Daisy Close. I am a teenage American-Peruvian actress, singer, and songwriter. This year, I am focused on achieving several goals I have set for myself, most of them within the entertainment industry. New Year’s is one of my favorite holidays, as I believe a new year brings new blessings, opportunities, and, most importantly, new beginnings. Every New Year’s, I make it a tradition for me to create a vision board displaying all I aspire to accomplish that year. After I complete it, I hang it somewhere where I can see it every morning so I can feel motivated and empowered to work harder, leading me closer to achieving my visions. This year, one of my biggest goals is to release my debut EP, which is bound to come true as it is currently set to release in 2024. I have been working in the studio nonstop, recording and writing new music, and I’m so thrilled to be able to share my upcoming music with the world and all of you so soon. I have poured my blood, sweat, and tears into my music, and I hope it resonates with all of you as much as it does with me. If you’re interested in hearing all of the original music I’ve been working on, make sure to follow my social media to stay updated with release dates and so much more!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Ooh, that’s a tough one! If I had to choose three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey, I would say the three most impactful qualities I have had within my journey in the entertainment industry would have to be firstly persistence, secondly determination, and thirdly a strong work ethic. I believe these three qualities are what have ultimately led me to experience the success I have thus far in my career. I believe persistence is key, especially in the entertainment industry. The performing arts have a special place in my heart, there’s no doubt, but there is an extremely tight door when it comes down to breaking into the entertainment industry and living a life in showbiz. There are so many factors that come into play when trying to pursue a career in this industry. I won’t get into them all, but if you truly aspire to pursue this career, you have to have the strength of persistence. You get rejected more times than not in this industry, so you really have to be persistent in order to grow from your mistakes, get back on your feet, and just keep continuing to put your best self out there. With persistence comes having an undeterred mindset. In order to achieve greatness, you must first build a mindset of greatness. I believe failure is what makes us stronger, so I have built a mindset that has proven that the more times you fail, the stronger you are bound to become. It’s all about your perspective and how you push yourself to stay persistent, along with a strong mindset to never give up, no matter the circumstances. In addition to being persistent and having a strong mindset, determination is vital towards pursuing any career, but especially one in the entertainment industry. Being determined is what is ultimately going to get you to the top. In the entertainment industry, auditioning and putting yourself and your music out there is mainly about consistency and a little game I like to call trial and error. Being consistent in doing so takes a lot of determination and drive. I’ve grown to realize that nobody is going to just hand me my dreams on a silver platter, so in order to achieve my dreams, I have to be determined, work hard for them, and keep pushing even when at times they seem impossible. Through being determined, I have learned how to face my fears head-on and push myself to do more and be better at the things I am most passionate about so I can excel and exceed my own expectations, ultimately evolving into the best version of myself possible. Most importantly, I have learned how to conquer self-doubt and turn my disappointments into new opportunities to improve. Trial and error has allowed me to discover so much about what I have to offer as an artist and creative and how I want to offer those gifts through my work shared with others. I like to use the symbolism of a butterfly to represent the essence and effect that determination has on us as living creatures. In order for a butterfly to develop its wings and be able to fly, it must first stay for a period of time in its cocoon. Similarly, in order for us to develop our “wings” to rise higher into our full potential, we must remain patient through the waiting process and stay determined towards achieving our goals, even when things may seem the same or like they aren’t changing. Lastly, a strong work ethic is essential towards achieving success, as I mentioned earlier, and has been the most impactful on my journey thus far into my career. Having a strong work ethic ultimately allows you to appreciate the journey and discipline you have put in towards achieving the dreams and goals you have set for yourself. Seeing the goals you once set for yourself come to fruition because of all of the hard work you have put in will make it feel all the more rewarding. It will make those countless hours and sleepless nights feel so much more worth it, and you will ultimately feel empowered because only you will know all the hard work, passion, and love you have poured into those dreams “behind the scenes” of it all. Having a strong work ethic is a testament to yourself and to how hard you’re willing to work to achieve the biggest dreams you have for yourself and for your future. My advice for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these qualities is to challenge yourself to improve at something you’re passionate about little by little every day and to always keep your dream alive inside your heart even when times may become difficult. I believe a life without passion is a life without living. The key is to never give up on your dreams and to push yourself to always keep growing and learning new things.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
That’s a tricky question. I have two sides to this question. I believe it is crucial to both go all in on our strengths as well as try to be more well-rounded by investing effort in improving areas you aren’t as strong in. I think having a balance of strengths and weaknesses is what makes us human and what makes us interesting and unique from one another. It would be a very strange world if everyone only had either strengths or weaknesses, rather than a bit of both. I believe that by working together as a team, our strengths may be what help someone else’s weaknesses, or vice versa. Practically nobody can achieve their dreams without the help of someone else or other people on their side. It’s all a team effort, and that’s when our strengths and weaknesses allow us to come together to truly achieve greatness. I believe that we should all spend time trying to work on some of our weaknesses so that we can improve in certain areas and become more of a well-rounded individual, but I also believe that both our strengths and weaknesses represent who we are and what we have to offer as individuals. I also believe certain “weaknesses” can never be improved or fixed, as that’s just how we were created to be. I also believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so what we as individuals may consider a weakness may be someone else’s interpretation of a strength in their eyes. I believe it’s great to play our strengths to our advantage, especially when using our skills and showing what we have to offer for ourselves in the entertainment industry, as that is mainly the art of auditioning and creating, but I believe the most beautiful act of showing our true selves is to have a fine line between showcasing both our strengths and our weaknesses, creating a vulnerable space that shows us it’s okay to be human and how, as individuals, none of us are perfect, but it’s our imperfections that allow us to be different from one another, and being different is what ultimately makes us all beautiful.
