We were lucky to catch up with DaiTrell Ingram recently and have shared our conversation below.
DaiTrell, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Building confidence and self esteem has been such a journey for me. Starting out, it didn’t feel or seem as if I had any at all… I didn’t really believe in my self either. Thankfully I had inspirations like P!nk, and India Arie, who let it be known that it’s okay to be who you are.
I felt torn and conflicted as a kid, recognizing your “differences” but feeling like you have some people around you saying you have to do this and that, and be this way. While others are saying don’t do this, or that a don’t act “this” way. And you’re like, I just want to express myself in whatever way that is.
So I started this mantra; “Be Radical! Be Daring! Be… You!” As a message to myself to always do whatever I wanted and what I felt.
As far as performing and being okay being in front of people, I started taking pictures and recording myself just to look at and see myself, in order to see myself doing what I really wanted to do. And it’s amazing to sit back and see all that I’ve been able to do, not only in 10 years being an independent artist, but also being in my 30s and seeing the confidence and love for myself continue to grow and evolve.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a Recording Artist, Lyricist, Entertainer, and Certified Life Coach. In all that I do, be it on stage, in the studio, or during a one-on-one session; I love to make people feel good, give them hope to know they can make it through any struggle. And, remind them of the light they have inside of them.
These are the things that give me fuel to keep pushing through, that’s what we call passion and purpose!
Things have kind of been a little slower for me, coming off the high celebrating 10 years as an artist, I did two big concerts closing out 2022 and wanted to start a tour early 2023, but focusing on personal things and life overall…. and honestly a bit of fear, I haven’t pursued the way I wanted to. But we’re almost half way through the year, and it’s time to pivot, so I’m looking to get back in my space to plan and execute.
Though other areas have been a little slower, I have added something to my professional resume, I’m now an actor with American Immersion Theater, so this is new, fun and exciting.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Interestingly enough, I didn’t feel like I had any skills, knowledge or qualities that would enable me to do what I love to do, I just knew I wanted to do them. And honestly, I’ve had other people call it out or bring it to my attention to realize I could… it still kind of shocks and surprises me when I really sit back and reflect on what I’m able to do or even how I get it done.
So that would be my advice to others; you may not feel like you have “star quality” or feel like you’re the “best” in your field, but you know it’s something you want to do, stick with it, learn all that you can on perfecting it in your own way, and stand on it!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes! I am absolutely looking for others to collaborate with, especially while developing plans for tour… I want to connect with other artists, and have them co-headline when I come to a city they’re in or a city they would like to join me in, and we give a kick-ass show… no competition, no egos, but a moment of pure joy, and passion to entertain and have the audience leaving empowered.
I’d also like to connect with other small businesses that would like to sponsor, or be apart of the tour as well. As an opportunity to cross reference strategies and things helpful to bring awareness to who each of us are, what’s offered, and all that can be done. As I feel many people in the world are looking for community, outreach in some way, and things to be apart of as a connected humanity.
