Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dakiesha “Diamond” Threatt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dakiesha “Diamond”, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my grandmother I watchher work hard for everything she had. She’s the reason I became a business owner. I watched her start 2 businesses of her own and be super successful with them. She showed me that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My name is Dakiesha Threatt but everyone calls me Diamond. I’m the CEO of RedDiamond Promotions and Diamond Decadence Catering here in Jacksonville Florida.
I started my company RedDiamond Promotions because im a huge house music lover. And when I moved to Jacksonville I realized there was a lot of fantastic djs here that were not getting a fair chance to be seen, including my husband who goes by R.E.D. which stands for Real Every Day. so I said to myself I want to do something about this. I originally started the company to help get him more exposure, and realized this could be soooo much more. I started throwing events in the community and trying to bring ack what the house music culture stands for which is PLUR. Peace LOVE Unity and Respect. I realized that we had lost the meaning of what house music stood for so I’ve set out on a quest to bring it back to the basics. Which is also why I’ve named one of my events just that.
I’m also very soft hearted. Because I knew I was doing my events in clubs, pubs, and bars where alcohol would be flowing and most of our events go until the wee hours in the morning, I create and started my catering company Diamond Decadence Catering. I feel personally responsible for any and every person who comes to our events, and in most cases most restaurants are closed by the end of our events and id feel terrible if something happened to someone leaving my event because we didn’t provide something for them to put on their stomach. So my catering company was born. I then realized I had a passion for cooking and took beyond just our events.
I’m also an activist for the LGBTQIA community. I am Proud to be an ally. I create and will never stop creating safe spaces for ALL. I sit on several Pride boards from Jacksonville to Melbourne Florida, and will continue to stand with a d fight for the community with all my heart.
I currently have a few projects in the works including a festival that im currently developing. I want to spread as much happiness and love in this world were things may seem tough. I want to be that glimmer of light when it may seem the darkest weather that be through the events we throw or the food i cater.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The 3 biggest things that helped me get here would be:
love if I didn’t love what I do I would have been given up. With my company and the industry that I chose to go in its a male dominated industry. I’ve had to fight and go harder to prove my abilities in this industry. it wasn’t easy but I wouldn’t change a thing because I wouldn’t be where I am today without everything I went through
determination with out this none of this would have happened. I’ve had so many people not believe in my vision and have had so many people say no to my ideas but I never let it stop me. I live my life by one rule no mater what “I WILL NOT LOSE!!”
And drive i strive to make the world just a bit brighter everyday no matter what.
My advice for anyone who has a dream of doing anything in life is don’t give up do the thing and don’t allow anyone to tell you you can’t achieve your dreams because you can and you will it may take time and hard work but in the end its worth it.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
when i feel overwhelmed I literally do what I call a factory reset where I will take a day turn off all social media and take a day for myself mentally and physically. burn out is real so doing this is a must if you want to run a successful business
