Meet Dakota Gamble

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dakota Gamble. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Dakota, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout
I was faced with many obstacles and low moments before and after Covid hit but, funny enough, I always hit myself with the FOMO Card. That’s when I think to myself about what I’d miss if I went too down in my thoughts and feelings and I let myself be overwhelmed by things. Because that’s all they are at the end of the day. Just things. So when I feel like the world is too oppressive or things aren’t going to get better, I just ask myself if I’d be okay with missing everything going on outside of this clouded area . . . and, every time, I know there’s something going on that I want to be a part of and I eventually snap out of it!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I woke up many days in college falling in love with something that broke me out of my low self-esteem and self-consciousness, introduced me to a world of networking with renowned and talented individuals, got me to travel and talk to people I used to idolize growing up, and being good at something that entertained others and made people stop for a second in their chaotic lives to enjoy something and escape in any form of media I find myself dabbling in. I love what I do and I think it’s an amazing excuse to do what most people want to do and break the rules a bit. I used to before working hard to get my name into this industry and I’m glad I can do it legally now, too.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities — hm . . . I definitely chose to “do more and do better” so I could always adapt to the changing times and try what might be popular next but with my own expressive signature added. I learned not to take advice from anyone less successful than me and to actually WORK with other people rather than think I’m better or more of a leader or anything less than knowledgeable in every field on a set. I know more people know more than me so I’m always here to work with others to make a dream come into fruition. A third skill is to learn to be yourself in a room full of talented and good-looking people, most of whom are trying to attract the next agent or producer to work with them. I just love talking and making friends and then answering the inevitable question of what I do and having that be an added bonus to my character rather than having my disposition and career define me.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Right now I am overcoming some health and addiction challenges that have really damaged my creative process for a while now. I didn’t have a fair balance of work and passion with social interaction and pleasure so I had to take a big step back to figure out what was better for me in the long run. I’m proud to say that I’m on the right path again and I am working on re-branding and bigger projects coming very soon! I miss being in love with the craft and all of the people involved so this breakthrough from my last folly will be the very thing that makes me happy living this life that I’ve been blessed with.
