We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dale Nichols. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dale below.
Dale , so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I stay focused and locked in. I recently dealt with some set backs in my business that made me close my cart for the next month or so. I know a lot of people probably think I’ve failed or won’t be back open. You have to block out the negative and remember your mission. Keep grinding to get where you want to be and keep reinventing yourself. While my cart is closed I have been doing catering and pop up events. Haters will always hate and if they are then you are doing something right. Remember that.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an inner city kid who was raised by a single mother who did her best to make sure we had all we needed despite the struggles. I learned the value of hard work early. I quit sports and started working at 16 to help my mother with the bills. I also loved to cook. I was in kitchen with my mother from a young age and she really sparked my passion. After she passed in 2013 it kind of took me awhile to find my niche and what I wanted out of life. It lead me back to food and what I love to do. Last year I started my business though I was selling food out of the house for years. Now I have my own cart “Hundos Gumbo” and the dream is still alive.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think determination and dedication brought me here. It was times I wanted to give up. Felt to hard or things just kept going bad but coming from my background I learned you have to take the good with the bad and keep on pushing. Also having a good work ethic if you aren’t willing to put the work in then it will never work. Even when it gets hard keep going if you truly believe in yourself.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Right now I’m facing the challenge of getting licenses that I thought were already in place. See in business always do your homework never just trust someone’s word. I didn’t double check and it’s costing me now. I will learn from this experience and keep moving though.
