We were lucky to catch up with Dallen Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dallen, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

I’ve found that embracing my uniqueness and leveraging it to bring a fresh perspective has been key.
I started my production agency Simply Edit Pro when I was 22 years old. I quit my 9-5 job filled with the childlike excitement of starting something of my own. There I was, an unemployed early 20’s brown kid with questionable tattoos. I had some challenges to navigate. This realization led me to understand the true power of framing

Framing taught me how to build credibility without compromising who I was.

What separates them is the intentionality in framing. while the object may stay the same, the framing will ultimately change the prospective in value.

I am a hard working founder of a company with tangible skills ready to help people.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I was 22 years old. I had a full ride scholarship to a university out of state. After getting enrolled & starting my classes, I quickly picked up that this education system wasn’t going to work for me. Anxiety builds with the impending disappointment I was going to inflict on my family. Avoiding the truth, I had dropped my scholarship to pursue my business full time. I went as far as faking transcripts & class assignments to get more time. but I knew I couldn’t keep this madness up. Three months went by and I finally told my parents… It was truly the most disappointed I had ever seen them.

While I was fixated and thrilled to live in the height of entrepreneurialism. My parents hadn’t caught up yet to what was possible.

At a very early age I had worked nearly 15 different jobs from construction, to waiting tables, I understood that the only way to have your dream job is it build it yourself.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three qualities stand out as game-changers in my journey: Radical empathy, adaptability, and curiosity.

Radical empathy has been crucial in understanding and connecting with my clients on a deeper level. By truly listening and putting myself in their shoes, I can tailor our services to meet their unique needs and challenges. This approach not only builds trust but also fosters long-lasting relationships.

Adaptability is key in the ever-evolving tech and content creation landscape. Being open to change and ready to pivot when needed has kept Simply Edit Pro ahead of the curve.

And curiosity – never stop learning. Whether it’s new technology like AI, or even just a different way of thinking, staying curious keeps you innovative and relevant.

For those just starting out, my advice is simple: don’t be afraid to fail & reinvent ideas – it’s part of the learning process. Stay flexible and willing to adapt your strategies, and always keep your curiosity alive.
