We were lucky to catch up with Daman Singh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Daman, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my parents. As immigrants of India who immigrated to the United States in the late 80s, they came to the land of opportunity to provide a better life for my sibling and I.
My dad was a musician of North Indian music. While he played in India, his resilience as a child allowed him to practice his craft and become a professional. I was fortunate enough to have a musical background growing up and my dad passed on his resilience to me as I learned to play South Asian instruments and music growing up; this was the foundation of my music career. I used that resilience early in high school to start playing Western instruments such as the acoustic and bass guitar, while still learning to play south asian instruments.
It wasn’t always easy; I had to overcome obstacles like dealing with different personalities and learning to take initiative; these challenges are where I truly shine. I’ve applied these same philosophies to my personal life, including my fitness journey, where I’ve had to show up and put in the work even on days I didn’t feel like it. I’ve come to believe that nothing worthwhile comes easily, and that a strong work ethic isn’t a gift—it’s a choice you make every single day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Outside of my professional career, my passion is music.
My musical journey began in early childhood, under the guidance of my father, a musician of considerable skill. He introduced me to the tabla, a pair of South Asian hand drums. Their unique sound quality, derived from the harmonious interplay of a higher and lower pitched drum, captivated me from the outset.
From my teenage years into adulthood my fascination with the vast landscape of music started to grow. A desire to expand my musical knowledge led me to pick up the bass and electric guitar during my high school years, providing a profound understanding of musical composition. My pursuit of musical understanding extended to a self-directed exploration of music theory. In my early university years, I discovered the dhol, a powerful South Asian percussion instrument, which became a sought-after element in festive gatherings, especially weddings. My prior experience with the tabla, and my sense of rhythm, allowed me to readily adapt to the dhol’s percussive demands. These two instruments, the dhol and tabla, became the cornerstones of my musical offerings, which I presented to diverse clients seeking to elevate their celebrations with their dynamic and unique sounds.
The opportunity to blend the distinctive sounds of the dhol and tabla with the diverse musical landscapes of numerous DJs has been a true privilege. Because of this, I recognized my own potential to expand my artistic horizons, realizing the art of DJing was a natural progression. I had been limiting myself, and was now ready to grow.
The year 2022 marked my introduction to the art of DJing. I picked up my very first DJ controller and began a self-taught journey of YouTube tutorials; my musical background came in handy, making the learning process remarkably fluid. I began with the essential skill of beat matching, aligning the tempos of two tracks. Once I felt comfortable with the beginning steps, I delved into song structure, understanding their constituent elements, such as the highs and low points of the song. This led me to master the technique of mixing, seamlessly transitioning between tracks through strategic crossfading.
Every day after work, I immersed myself in the practice of DJing, watching countless online tutorials and slowly perfecting my craft. Although I feel that perfection doesn’t exist, this commitment led to a level of proficiency that I felt compelled to share via Instagram, a step made possible by my established musical foundation. For the next few years, I focused on improving my DJ skills and building relationships with local wedding planners. This combination of practice and networking helped me feel ready to DJ small weddings and events.
Reaching 2025, DJing took center stage in my creative life, but it was earned, not given. I discovered that even short, consistent practice sessions are crucial. My musical background helped, but it didn’t eliminate the need for hours of work. I encountered financial and knowledge-based challenges, but I learned to view them as opportunities to grow. It is about choosing to be positive, and allowing passion to drive your work ethic.
As I go into 2026 with my strong work ethic and my unique blend of music of different genres, I’m ready to show the world that my music is my voice. As I continue to hone my craft, my love of music will go into creating my own beats and songs that I can share with the world. I always looking forward to meeting individuals who can help me and I can help them in their musical journey and we can share that sound with the world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resilience
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had to learn to be resilient with my journey; this was important for me to get to where I am now and a big thing is to bounce back from challenges. My parents own journey helped shape my own journey to go against the cultural norms I grew up with struggles with personality conflicts and a lack of initiative; It’s not a trait I was born with, but had to develop through my own experiences.
My advice: the best way to to build resilience is to embrace discomfort. Don’t shy away from challenges. Instead, view them as opportunities for growth. When you face a setback, take a moment to reflect on what you can learn from it, and then apply those lessons to your next endeavor. Think of it as building muscle: each time you overcome an obstacle, you’re getting stronger.
Dedication & Hard Work
This is the philosophy that nothing worthwhile comes easily. I’ve had to put in the work to get to where I am in my professional career, my DJ career and my fitness journey. I had to show up every single day and let life throw whatever it threw at me. It goes beyond putting in the hours – its about a deep commitment to excellence and a willingness to do what others aren’t willing to do. That’s the facts.
My advice: Start small. Find a skill or a project you’re passionate about and commit to working on it consistently, even on days when you lack motivation. Whether it’s practicing an instrument for 15 minutes a day or learning a new programming language, consistency builds momentum. Over time, these small acts of discipline will accumulate, and you’ll find that your capacity for hard work has grown exponentially.
Adaptability
Adaptability is key. We live in an ever changing digital world and things change every day. Whether its learning a new instrument or a new technology, you have to be willing to adapt or get left behind. Show up, put in the work, adapt, and prevail.
My advice: Actively seek out new learning experiences. This could be anything from taking a course on a new software to volunteering for a project outside your usual responsibilities. Don’t be afraid of the unknown; instead, see it as an opportunity to broaden your horizons. By consistently exposing yourself to new ideas and challenges, you’ll train your mind to be flexible and open to change, making you a more versatile and valuable professional.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, absolutely. I’m always looking to network and connect with other creatives and professionals. The goal is to partner with people who are passionate about their craft and driven to create something meaningful. I believe that collaboration is where the most exciting ideas are born, and it’s how we can all push our work to the next level.
I’m specifically looking for folks who embrace a growth mindset and aren’t afraid to take on a challenge. If you’re an artist, an IT professional, or anyone in a creative or technical field who is looking to explore new opportunities, I’d love to connect.
