We recently connected with Dame and have shared our conversation below.
Dame, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Does anyone ever fully? Years of trial, error, curiosity, and more error helped me mine what felt unadulterated and moved in that. Creating and existing in that purer place brought a level of confidence that still helps balance out those moments of doubt. I also realized not that long ago, getting to a point where the amount of incoming calls and emails matching the consistency of the outgoing ones offered some validation. Plus, the work we’re doing now really focuses on building and celebrating a community that operates in that same confidence, so there’s inspiration and accountability baked into the brand – A steel sharpens steel approach.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Everything you see going forward will be a culmination of years of gathering tools. My creative journey started with studio engineering and shooting music videos, before moving into making clothes, and now bags. I’m at a point now where I’m naturally calling upon lessons learned more cohesively and that’s an exciting place to create from. I feel fully tapped in.
A big part of that is owed to exploring the idea of legacy. I’m eager to carve out my corner of the world and build on it. That feeling propels me forward, but there’s also history behind me; my grandfather was a prolific furniture maker. That’s a more recent discovery, but it’s funny how life works.
Next up, we’ve got our FW Collection premiering at the fig Fashion Show on September 28th!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience definitely kept me going when things were turbulent. Being well versed in multiple disciplines is some of the best advice I’ve ever committed to; being your own contingency plan is a powerful thing in the midst of the creative process. It sounds generic, but networking is truly invaluable; speaking to the core of people regardless of their walk of life has taken me so unbelievably far.
Shortening the time between inspiration and execution is key. That can’t be done without a solid team, and a solid team can’t be built without refining and being able to sell others on your dream.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Of course! There’s infinite possibilities with other business owners, boutiques, and retail spaces. Building that community is paramount as we continue to grow. Feel free to reach out to [email protected] or on Instagram @shop.dameave.
