Meet Damian Gruppuso

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Damian Gruppuso. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Damian below.

Hi Damian, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Finding purpose with what I’m currently doing in life took years of battling with my own self, struggling with mental health and finally overcoming those challenges. I truly found purpose in my life with just simply doing what I love and enjoy. Everyone has their hidden talents and skills. Not everyone is willing to pursue them because they’re scared of failure. I grew up with playing high level sports like Hockey, Soccer and Track and Field. Whatever it is that I was doing, if I loved it, I succeeded and saw results from It. I was addicted to seeing myself grow and get better at my skills. Ever since I could remember I was always in front of the camera and always enjoyed entertaining people. I currently run a Gutter cleaning company with a friend of mine and I’m a freelance Voice actor/actor. I truly started to get better at Voice acting when I started to take it serious. I knew I had a talent for it, people would tell me I should be a voice actor and I just never thought about taking it seriously. I found the more time i kept putting into my craft that better results I started getting.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My Name is Damian Gruppuso. I’m 31 years old and I was born in Scarborough Ontario. Ever since I was 1 years old my Dad put me on hockey skates and they knew I had something special. From playing competitive hockey, Soccer and running Track at the Canadian Level for the U16 Team. From a young age I struggled with school when it came to focusing on subjects that didn’t spark my interest just like every other young kid. I was a class clown and I enjoyed making the class laugh. That’s when I started to see that I was good at making people laugh/entertaining them. I Currently run a home service business called Gutter Ghosts, we are the number 1 Gutter cleaning company in the GTA. Being an entrepreneur has changed my way of thinking and has opened a lot of doors for myself. This year I’m focused on expanding our business into more of a sub contracting business so that I can focus on other projects I have on the go. I plan on taking on some movie rolls this year that I can speak to much on. Voice acting/acting has allowed me to be who I truly am, take on challenges as other characters and to continue to develop my skills working in the entertainment business. I’m also a live steamer on TikTok which I took on full time this year. I simply started doing it because I enjoy making people laugh and I ended up signing a contract with a Creator Network in the US. My viewers have told me that I would be good at stand up comedy and that I something I will be taking on as well this year.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Passion, consistency and dedication are the main 3 qualities you need to succeed in anything you do. Without passion I find that you will tend to jsut go through the motions and there is no love for what you’re doing. I’ve learnt to not care about what other people think of you and simply do what you do for yourself. Stop overthinking whatever it is you’re putting off and simply take action. What’s holding you back from doing what you love is you think people are going to judge you and you’re scared to fail. You can only succeed at what you’re doing by failing over and over again. No one great in this world is perfect, they’ve simply just stayed consistent with what they’re doing. A lot of people give up after a year or two because they’re not where they want to be. Entrepreneurship isn’t for the weak, it doesn’t happen over night and if it did everyone would be doing it. Continue to believe in yourself and telling yourself you won’t give up until you achieve what you want.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

I have been able to run my own business, take on jobs solo, I have my own commercial vehicle which I run my business with. I am able to travel for work, I make my own schedule and I’m able to take time off whenever I feel like I need it. This 12 months has taught me that working for yourself is always harder than working for someone else because when you’re working for yourself you don’t stop working. I’m constantly thinking of new content ideas and projects. There is a tremendous amount of planning that goes on behind the scenes of creating.
