Meet Damon Brown

We were lucky to catch up with Damon Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Damon, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

For me, it began when I became a father.

I founded an app called So Quotable that allowed people to capture funny or insightful things people. I worked with an old, tech-savvy friend who was handling the code. My partner at the time and I had a wonderful, beautiful baby boy, and they went back to work at their job while I became a stay-at-home dad.

At the exact same time, my old friend disappeared… with the code.

I had to either let go of the 95 percent done project or juggle both new fatherhood and learning how to program. I chose the latter – as long as I wouldn’t jeopardize my family. My son would wake up at 6 am on the dot, and I’d be in charge until we got him to bed around 6 pm. So, I would wake up at 3:15 am and put in a solid 3 hours of entrepreneurship time, learning to program, designing the app, and, after 6 months, getting it to the App Store.

Towards the end of the project, when I was at my tiredest, I got a call from TED. They asked me to do a TED Talk on what I learned from the app — in about 6 weeks. It gave me the last bit of motivation and I launched it just in time for my first TED Talk.

The TED Talk went well, got the attention of two other founders, and I was invited to join Cuddlr, an app they were creating to connect people for hugs. I became a co-founder and we launched what would become the #1 app of 2014. We sold the business the following year, just after my son’s second birthday.

I learned that you can make an impact on the world, even if you don’t pattern match into what Silicon Valley believes is an entrepreneur. Now as an author, business coach, and host/founder of BringYourWorth.tv, I’m determined to help other non-traditional entrepreneurs recognize their power.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I love helping side hustlers, solopreneurial, and other non-traditional entrepreneurs. There are so many creators, ambitious and curious individuals who know a specific way their communities are not being served, but they may not have a clear pathway to entrepreneurship.

My goal is to take everything in my toolbox and share it with the growing community so each person can make in impact in their own village.

I support in three distinct ways: As a TV host and public speaker, as an author, and as a business coach. As a business coach, I work one-on-one over the course of several sessions to help them remove the blocks preventing them from success. This ranges from finally writing that book to letting go of the 9-to-5 to building passive income. The emphasis is on emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and realistic goal-setting.

As an author, I have written several best-selling books that solidify the tools necessary for entrepreneurship success within the context of your current life. My latest title is The Complete Bring Your Worth Collection.

As a TV host, I launched BringYourWorth.tv on December 2020. It is a live show currently every Wednesday at 1:11 pm PT as well as recorded episodes throughout the week. Launched in the depths of the pandemic, I wanted to find ways to connect and serve non-traditional entrepreneurs when we could no longer do public speaking or have in-person events. As of Spring 2025, it has grown to more than 400 episodes, 10 million views, and 18,000 subscribers. It’s a fantastic, free way to connect with the world, answer questions during the lives shows, and pass along any insight throughout the community!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Empathy, vision, and tolerance.

Empathy allows us to truly listen to others. Not only does it make us kinder, but it also allows us to learn from others without having to go through the trials and tribulations ourselves.

Vision gives us the insight for what we desire years from now which, in turn, gives us the blueprint for what we need to do next today. What are you doing exactly 3 years from now? OK, then work backwards from there.

Tolerance makes us accept the short-term tradeoffs – sometimes pain, sometimes patience – required to make our vision real.

They are all muscles. Relish the situations where you have to flex them.

How would you describe your ideal client?

One of the reasons I have my own publishing company as well as my own boutique coaching business is that I love choosing with whom I work! It is a privilege I do not take for granted.

The new-to-veteran entrepreneurs I work with all have something to lose. Whatever they are creating, whatever they are doing — it has something at stake for the community they are serving. There is an inner pressure, a clear desire, to make an impact on their world. Without that spark, there is nothing for either one of us to work on.
